In New O. - Are 9th Ward residents not allowed to stay ?
I heard they were "allowed" in today, but that they wouldn't be allowed to stay (or camp out, given the lack of facilities).

What other neighborhoods are under these strictures? Or are others just given warnings about danger and allowed to make their own decisions about staying or not?

On what authority can they do this?

1. They were allowed to go in for a look-see
but couldn't stay-I believe this sort of thing happened in other parts of NO earlier. The reason the 9th Ward was one of the last is the problem of draining it. NPR said that there were some parts that still had about a foot of water in them.

2. I know a few that are back. There is a part of the 9th ward that is o.k.
but they haven't turned on electricity or anything because of the lower 9th. I know folks who shower and eat and may stay updtown but come home to work around the house or businesses during the day.

3. plenty of neighborhoods, plenty of authority
i know we like to pretend the disaster only affected the 9th ward, but there are plenty of ppl in plenty of neighborhoods where they are not allowed to stay & where it is unsafe for them to stay

like pretty much all of st. bernard parish

sheesh, forgive me for being grouchy, but i think it's time ppl caught a clue train that this disaster destroyed homes & lives from pascagoula to plaquemines & beyond

not just the 9th ward

every local authority has the right and the duty to condemn unsafe housing & to prevent ppl from staying there when it will threaten life & limb

4. the reason i asked...
Was because CBS ran a piece on the 9th this evening. I was just wondering if the treatment of the residents was uniform, neighborhood to neighborhood. I fear that the possibility of abuse has made me extra inquisitive.

(I know that the disaster is everywhere)

5. I believe it was called Look and Leave, Spent a few weeks down
Near the 9th ward and Its nothing less than devastated. Theres no way people could inhabit that area for a while. The pictures don't do it justice, Honestly don't how long its gonna take to bring that area back to life.
