The Harriet And George Letters

Bush-Miers Texas correspondence reveals mutual admiration society
OCTOBER 12--Sure, nobody seems to know anything about Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers's judicial philosophy, abortion position, or conservative bona fides. But here's something not open for debate: the old gal loves exclamation points and seemed to enjoy writing gushy notes to then-Governor George W. Bush. Below you'll find copies of personal correspondence exchanged between Bush and Miers from 1995-2000 (before migrating to Washington, Miers headed the Texas State Lottery Commission, a post to which Bush appointed her). The Bush-Miers letters were among more than 2000 pages of documents released this week by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. In a 1997 Hallmark greeting card (adorned with a photo of a dog), Miers sent along belated birthday wishes and noted that "You are the best governor ever--deserving of great respect!" In another note (penned on an American Greetings card), Miers wrote that she hoped Bush's daughters realized that their parents were "cool." A 1995 Miers note thanked Bush for a visit, adding that an airplane ride with the governor was "Cool!" Sadly, the document dump did not include Miers's e-mail or IM messages, which are surely filled with loads of sappy emoticons. (18 pages)

This whole Miers nomination is out of friggin' hand. His own personal lawyer? His cronyism so blatant it's pathetic!!!!!!!!

3. Who saves this sort of stuff?
Most cards and notes of mine are tossed into the recycling bin. The only ones I keep are the very meaningful ones.

8. These cards and notes got her a shot at the Supreme Court...
Lifetime appointment. Cushy job. About $200,000 a year. Full benefits including health. Good retirement package.

No doubt these cards and notes turned out to be quite "meaningful" to her...

17. I would bet good money that she let fly with the
"shit" word. He probably found that funny and uncharacteristic of her.

Now who knows who her "partner" Gene is...
Anyone?
Oh, maybe a law partner?
Anyone?

14. I bet Bush is the type who whines if people forget his b-days...
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 07:05 PM by Lisa
I'm starting to get that feeling, after seeing her grovelling apology (with extra annotations on the card!).

And -- did he tease her about an "older woman and younger man" situation, or something?

I stopped sending flirty notes when I was in my early 20s, after noticing that guys just laughed or became dismayed, when getting them from other women -- I could only assume that my own notes were getting the same reaction, so I quit. Either that or look more foolish (and desperate).

A guy would have to be pretty egotistical to welcome correspondence like this (especially someone who is already into his 50s, AND married).

Oh, and what's up with Bush's weird facial expression, in the background?

Compare:

with a bit more smirk than these ones ...

19. the article is pretty entertaining ...
Someone trying to come up with an explanation for why Bush's facial expression is so similar. Apparently other pics have been found which add to this ... not that I think Bush really is a sophisticated animatronic robot, since I assume that it would have access to more information and have quicker reflexes if that were the case.
