I watched my dad struggle in pain his last days. We had to pull his feeding tubes at the end, thankfully he died less than 24 hours later.

Others are not so lucky. It is kinder to end it quickly than allow somebody to suffer for days, weeks or worse months or years.

We were lucky in that my dad made it clear to everyone, he didn't want to be kept alive artificially.

The last few hours he was lucid he tried to reassure us, for us not to worry too much, that we were all organic matter and sooner or later this has to happen.

It was too soon.

He would have loved the recent political happenings, he was lamenting on his death bed that this crooked group "won".
