Dobson Says Rove Told Him Others Declined Supreme Court Nomination !!!
<snip>

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. A Christian leader says presidential aide Karl Rove suggested that conservative women more prominent than Harriet Miers had declined to be nominated to the Supreme Court.

On his daily radio show Wednesday, Focus on the Family's James Dobson said Rove told him that President Bush had decided to pick a woman, but that some who were being considered didn't want to put themselves or their families through the Senate confirmation process.

Did anybody else hear this today, or lately at least???

They really do need to drag Dobson in front of the Senate Judiciary Hearing!!!

2. Didn't we already hear that Owens said NO?
I know she was on the short list, and I read several posts here on Du that said she removed herself from consideration.

I know that's only one, but it lends a bit of truth to the story.

5. Just Did A Google Search, Found Nothing To That Effect !!!
And the right keeps bringing her up as an example of somebody Bush should have chosen. Have not heard anybody report that she turned it down.

Where did you hear that???

8. I read it on several posts here on DU and also heard it on CNN.
I just did a google search too and can't find it, but I KNOW I read it and heard it too. I can't forget how glad I was at the time, but still very afraid that Brown would be his choice!

9. Napi... Found The Story !!! - Course It Comes From McClellan, So...
<snip>

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two conservative Supreme Court candidates withdrew from consideration but that had nothing to do with President George W. Bush's decision to nominate White House lawyer Harriet Miers, the Bush administration said on Wednesday.

And...

White House spokesman Scott McClellan confirmed what conservative Christian leader James Dobson told his radio program about an October 1 telephone conversation he had had with Karl Rove, Bush's top political adviser, in which Rove tried to convince Dobson to support Miers.

McClellan said it was "just a couple" of candidates who had withdrawn from consideration.

6. There was a post here a week or so ago that indicated the same
From some conservative blog, there was scuttlebutt that Miers was the best they could do because the other options had too many skeletons in their closet and declined. Who knows if it is true or just a RW talking point to shore up the right....

7. Apparently no one told McClellan
He reaffirmed today that Miers was the first and only choice. The Bush Administration lied? Go figure.
