WWJD about Fonda’s actions?

I read another very tired, unoriginal letter in Stars and Stripes about how Jane Fonda is one of the biggest traitors America has ever seen (“Fonda a ‘traitor’ to U.S., allies,” Sept. 15). Give it a rest!

Fonda has already apologized numerous times about things she did during the anti-Vietnam War movement in the 1960s and early ’70s. If I remember correctly, there were millions of Americans opposed to that war. How did Fonda come to be everybody’s whipping boy? Maybe it’s because she’s rich, famous and good-looking? Everybody likes to beat up on those people — they’re easy targets.

It seems to be a sad fact of human nature that some people can only lift their self-esteem by putting down other people. I suspect that is truly at the heart of the matter. I guess if you can beat up on someone rich and famous that lifts your self-esteem even higher? I understand that. I do it all the time.

I would recommend attending a Christian church. This guy named Jesus, who they claim to be their founder, had a lot of good things to say about the power of love and forgiveness. I should warn you in advance that many modern Christian churches do not focus much on the “love and forgiveness” part of Jesus’ teachings these days. It was the most important part of his message, but somehow it seems to have been put on the back burner.

Fonda has apologized. Why can you not find it in your heart to forgive her? That is the real question. I may be wrong. If your hatred of Fonda does something positive for you, then maybe you should hold onto it, nurture it and cherish it. Carry it to your grave. Show it to Saint Peter when you arrive at the pearly gates. Maybe it’ll get you in?

Don't you know? Conservatives are allowed to have "youthful indiscretions" up until they're 45 or 50 yrs old. Liberals have to be perfect from the time they turn 16.

and yet Fonda, who has since had two children, gone through two marriages, written several books, made movies and exercise videos, and had a hip replacement is still in the RWers' targets. She's moved on. Why can't they?

MERCS are doing much more damage than Fonda ever did. Attack them.

They are really grasping at straws when they have to bring up Jane Fonda. I commend you for challenging them to show Christian forgiveness. That's a dictate of their faith that is so often forgotten.
