I don't mind if you do I would just like to be prepared now. Spanish was my first language and in the event that the girl and I just decide that we would prefer to live life up north I want to know now if I should start brushing up on the French language.

4. Thanks ya for the site!
Good to know. I was planning on someday picking up the language anyway, I just like to know what sort of pressure on time there is. I.E. if required for citizenship that would mind I better get my ass in gear now.

2. It's much easier to get a good paying govt job if you do
But it's not a requirement or anything.

Say that's a mighty neat looking flag you have there as your avator. How'd you come up with that design? although that funny looking thing in the middle looks sort of satanic

:sarcasm: :silly:

5. No, but...

I spoke to a tour guide about this apx. two years ago, she said gets asked that question a lot. She said it is getting harder to become a Canadian citizen. She said the government has a number of areas which they evaluate and they give you some kind of a score on various things such as education, skills, languages, etc. She said you don't have to speak French, but it helps a lot with the score if you do. She said you absolutely can't get in with any kind of a criminal record, or with even one drunk driving offense.

Anyway, here are some links you might find helpful.

7. Well if i tried right now I'd be applying as a holder of a BS degree
in Info Technology from Unv. of Arizona, fluent in Spanish, ZERO criminal record I don't even have a speeding ticket next to my name.....well I do have a traffic violation but it was dismissed.

I plan on learning French sooner or later.....

Think I have a shot? :)

6. No, but it helps.
I recently visited a site which allows you to estimate if you'll get enough points to become a citizen, and if I assume one year in my current job (paralegal) I finally get enough points.

Being young is a huge help. My husband and I are both over 50, which hurts us a lot. I assume I'd pass a French test with moderate proficiency, but I have no idea how difficult the test is. I do know that I cheerfully speak French every chance I get, but have no idea how I'd really shape up to their standards.

My husband and I are very seriously considering moving to Canada. It will probably take about two years for us to get everything in place, but we intend to pursue this.

8. Of course, you don't to be US ambassador to Canada
In fact, you don't have to know the first thing about Canada.
