Letterman's TOP 10: Thoughts going through Bush's mind at this moment:

10. This should make up for me waiting a week to respond to the huricane
9. Dang this fun -- I should bring a hammer to cabinet meetings
8. Why won't they let me handle the power tools?
7. Great, another thing I'm not good at
6. This is the kind of thing we should be paying Haliburton 800 bucks an hour to do
5. Do I get to keep the hard hat?
4. It's HAMMER TIME
3. I've got to finish pretending to build a house so I can go pretend to comfort people
2. Georgie's gonna need another five weeks off

And the #1 thought going through *'s mind:

1. Only thing Clinton ever nailed was that hefty intern

"You want me to what? The American people pay me to be in the Oval Office, NOT to hammer nails."

6. Does it say "Commander In Chief" on the hat ? - I think it says
"Handy Andy" on the hammer.

(Kids' toy in the '50s. I don't know if they still make them, but I'd borrow money to bet it says "Made In China" on it and the hat)

29. I know hardware.. and its a cheap low wieght hammer... not pro tool at all
and the grip is clearly unskilled, as his thumb is on the handle as he taps the nails over and over... with his grip choked up. Not like its a suprise, but hes only good at nails in coffins.... I am so looking forward to his downfall...

37. Thats the 1st thing i noticed.
You can look at the picture and tell from his grip and such he has never used a hammer. He grabs it just like most begginers. As you mentioned he's way to high with his grip, which equals no power in swing. He has his hands in a very weak and dangerous grip with the unenclosed thumb. So all he could manage it just to tap, tap, tap those nails in since that pussies grip would not allow for a true full swing that would bury a nail in 2-3 swings.

13. Nobody uses a hammer anymore ...
Someone should have been wise enough to at least put a nail gun in his hand. Every construction worker around the country will know that no one uses a hammer anymore for that purpose, unless you're bashing something into place ... jeezuz.

Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 11:35 PM by TahitiNut
I sure wouldn't. :eyes: I wouldn't want to be within 500 yards of that psychopath handling a nail gun.

On edit: I'd be willing to bet the Secret Service wouldn't permit it either.

Next time hand him a nail gun and everybody haul ass for ten minutes and when they come back to see Dubya laid out on the ground, all our troubles will be over.

Otherwise, this picture would be of dead and wounded construction workers and SS agents in the background.

In the foreground would be Tinkles himself, in some discomfort, with his hand nailed to a 2x4.

14. Whenever I see one of Bush's photo-ops like this...
... all I can think of is a reporter's story on Bush exiting the governor's mansion in Austin after he'd won the presidency. There were a couple of movers taking furniture out, and were struggling with a long piece of furniture--a credenza, something like that. Bush noticed, ran over to pick up one end, all the cameras clicked, and once the pictures were taken, Bush dropped his end, leaving the movers to struggle on and came back to the reporters, saying, "where were we at?"

Okay, look, I am certainly not a carpenter, but I've pounded a few nails in my time. And it sure seems to me that if he follows through with that swing, he's going to bend the nail and wreck it. Any carpenter guys out there? Am I right?

I laugh every time I see that tiny little hammer. I guess they didn't want George to hurt himself too bad if he hit his hand.

31. I wonder how long he held that pose
and I'm not suggesting for the cameras either, just how long did it take those beady little eyes and that brain to connect - I mean if this guy's eyes were any closer together he'd be a cyclops.

I'm positive he has NO depth perception, and being dyslexic I bet they had to hold off on the photo shoot and tell him NOT to keep hitting the Hammer with the NAIL.

Bet Bush is thinking, "Man, this looks just like the marble in all my offices, how'm I goin ta nail into ROCK?"

"Uh, sir, that's called 'Pressboard'"...

Remember when he was helping the environment and they had him shoveling to create a path in a park somewhere.. they showed his shovel and it STILL had the sticker that comes on the face of the shovel on it.

Anyone who's used a shovel (and he wasn't using a squarehead which is what you use for spreading - it was a spade, knows that it was brand new and was not "sharp" enough to actually DIG at all..

it was a joke.

But the nailgun idea might be good, tell him he won't need that sweaty helmet, real men don't wear helmets when they use a nail gun sir.. your father always did, but he was called a WIMP if you recall sir..

I would PAY (Pay Per View) to watch this guy run a table saw for 15 minutes - and I mean more than 100 bucks to watch :)

45. I wouldn't pay towatch him run a table saw...
But I'd pay to watch him try to dodge the kickbacks when he tried.

For the folks who don't know, a commercial duty table saw can throw a board through a concrete block wall if you feed the board wrong.

38. The way he's holding that hammer...
means it took him about 25 or 30 hits to drive it in. And, these days, don't most construction folk use nail guns? Guess they would never trust him with one of those, seeing as how he would probably nail his own foot to the ground.

41. They probably rehearsed this...
hardhat and gloves looked macho but the goggles would look dorky. Can you imagine the POUSA practicing hitting nails and checking out how he looks. I'm sure this happened. There's no way they'd let him do this unrehearsed. The dread a Dukakis, Kerry (space shuttle) moment.

I understand that a female worker started the nail for *. Good point about trying to pick up a nail with those gloves on.

This whole thing was so pathetic. But, there were probably numbskulls who were impressed.

Someone in another thread wrote that he hit that nail 13 times when 2-3 times would be normal. Hope that there is a video around somewhere but I also read that only one pool reporter was allowed and she was so far away she couldn't hear the discussion. The released video probably is a short edit of this staged event.

47. I don't even think it was the right kind of nail!
I'm not a construction DIY person, but that nail (look at the zoom in up thread) looks like a finishing nail (thin, small, no head) for use when applying trim and molding. Would a nail like that one be used to secure structural plywood??
