I hate Louis Freeh
He was on NPR yesterday and I kept trying to scrub my brain...Ugh!

Why did Clinton not fire him after the stupid personal pass give back? Just had to get that out of my system?

1. I believe he wanted to but it was politically untenable at the time.
Louis Freeh is opus dei isn't he? He's a bastard to the bone.

10. This is the way I veiw it: Truman fired MacArthur at the height of
MacArthur's popularity because a soldier damn well better respect his commander in chief-So a director of the FBI should respect the president he serves under.

Having a good working relationship with your boss helps the organization you run work better but Freeh claims he was too scared that he may have been hauled in front of congress like that guy from Watergate. Imagine if he had talked to Clinton more on terrorism? And had assigned less agents to campaign finance (300 and not ONE indictment or conviction? Hello!)...little things that could have helped prevent 9/11...

20. If Clinton had canned Freeh, they'd have tarred and feathered him...
Bill was already getting beat up at every turn. To can a preening horse's ass like Freeh was the right call, but politically it would've created such a shitstorm that he wouldn't have been able to get anything done.

24. Don't get me wrong, I despise Lou...
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 01:08 PM by Hobarticus
It would have been painted as a blatant politically-motivated firing. The FBI was being used to actively investigate Staingate. Bill was trying to lay low, and not provoke any more trouble.

Meanwhile, the twenty 9/11 hijackers were setting up shop.

Good to see Lou's priorities were right where they needed to be. The top cop in the nation was on the beat when the largest mass murder in our nation's history was being planned....and he was happily pursuing charges of fellatio in government buildings.

"Deputy Dawg, at yer service!"

27. There could have been something that Clinton could have used on him...
Like the OK bombing.

But I know it was hard and with 20/20 hindsight it is easy to say X should have done Y.

2. Better to know about
those things than not. Failures are failures and it doesn't really matter if Clinton did everything else right, it won't absolve him from something he did wrong.

28. That the public know
I am referring to the interview that Freeh gave. Freeh is accusing Clinton of passing on Osama right? It is better that those kinds of things be out in the public, if it is a lie then it will be exposed as such. If it is true then it is better to know about it. That is all.

29. I am not sure
why you have that hostility. I might have read this post wrong. I thought that Freeh came out and said Clinton passed on bin Ladin and asked for money from the Saudis. If that is a lie it is better that Freeh makes that allegation in public and have it dismantled. If it is true it is better for us, the people to know that that went on.

32. I might be confused
But I thought the current dust up over this Freeh thing is that he said Clinton irresponsibly passed on bin Ladin. I think that would be wrong. But are you implying that Clinton is above reproach? That seems a little too....I don't know

33. You are indeed confused
I implied NOTHING in my questions. Two times I have asked you what Bill Clinton did wrong. You have not answered my question. It seems as though you need to read Richard Clarke's book before you do.

16. Once FBI was investigating Clinton, he couldn't fire him
If an FBI director wants to avoid getting fired, he just needs to make sure that he always has at least one on-going criminal investigation of the President underway. If Clinton had fired Freeh, it would have looked like Nixon's Saturday Night Massacure when a set of Federal officials all resigned because they refused to fire the Special Prosecutor.

Freeh came across in the NPR interview as an extremely bitter man who had personal hatred of Clinton. Freeh is playing the blame game against the Clinton Administration for 9-11. In reality, his own agency was too busy investigating BJGate to find the terrorist network inside the US.
