Pensions that fail are taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp, or PBGC as it is called. It's like the FDIC is for banks and their depositors, sort of.

This is all part of the prelude to the 2006 recession.

4. They won;t get full value on those pensions, though

I have many friends who work for Delta, and they are in despair. They have taken deep cuts in pay, yet AGAIN, have lost a lot of their special pays, their work schedules are being screwed with, some are being put on involuntary reserve...it is just awful for them, and some of them have twenty or more years of employment history.
