But not everyone on list is actually tied to his PAC

WASHINGTON - Using new technology to exploit gray areas in election law, a mystery group has been making anonymous, automated calls to voters in Republican congressional districts across the country, telling them that their representatives should return money received from Rep. Tom DeLay's political action committee.

Officials from national Democratic and Republican organizations say they cannot determine who is behind the group, which calls itself We the People. The calls began shortly after DeLay was indicted by two Travis County grand juries on a conspiracy charge and a money-laundering charge late last month and forced to step aside as House majority leader.http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/nation/3394004

2. Yikes.... LOL Great Article... Who are WE THE PEOPLE?
This sentence made me laugh this morning:

"But Bill Burton, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said his party had nothing to do with We the People"

14. LOL Where have we the people gone?
My problem is that my "next word" goes on vacation and my mouth is still at work. "Sometimers" I think they call it! What was I going to say?

3. I got a call at my home the day after Delay was indicted.
Telling me that my US rep and senator had taken money from
delay, giving the dollar amount for each and telling me to write each of them a letter expressing my outrage. It was a recording, a young female. I got a big kick out of it. Way to go!
I live in infamous Warren county OH, the place where the polls get locked down.

4. Me too
In IN-9, which is on the top ten hit list for dems... Mike Sodrel beat the incumbent dem by less than 1000 votes, I think, and we had some electronic voting irregularities in some counties.

The only problem is my conservative (not republican, not neo-conservative) husband is fed up with Bush et. al., on the basis of incompentance and fake conservatism and voted Dem last election, but these partisan Dem phone calls are actually pissing him off... its undoing all the work that I've done. They are too shrill for fence sitters like him... I erase them before he can hear them.

5. I can't say mine was shrill at all. Nice young lady.
No rhetoric at all. Just gave dates and dollar amounts and names.
Advised we write letters.

If anyone gets upset with that kind of call then
they are not the target audience anyway.

8. Not true... not true at all....
My husband voted for Clark in the primary, Kerry in the general, and dems for US Rep and Governor... the man has never voted for a dem for office before in his life, as far as I know. He is the target audience!

Look, you and I don't need to be convinced.... we know they are incompentent, lying, greedy evil scum that need to be booted straight from office and into jail. We don't need that call... the people who don't know that do need the call, and they are the ones that will get turned off from being partisan and shrill.

12. If anyone is shrill it is the repugs, yet people aren't turned off by them
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:37 AM by cassiepriam
The shriller the more popular. The sheeple like politics ala jerry springer.

And if someone is turned off by a phone call with facts, but not by a govt who is lying, murdering, torturing innocent women and children
then there is no hope anyway. They are lost souls and beyond
redemption. If an upset tone turns them off, but not the sociopaths of the WH then we are doomed anyway.

I guess I have a tone, I admit. But I am not going to apologize to anyone. What out govt has done is an outrage and deserves constant
shrieks in the night. The phone call I got was way too tame for my tastes.

15. The shriller the better for the already convinced.
On both sides.... we like to hear what we already believe... the echo chamber effect happens on both sides of the aisle. For those who are still looking for options, tone matters.... and I suspect there are a lot of disillusioned folks out there, looking for options. You may think they are lost souls, but many of them feel lied to, deceived, and are just waking up to lots of information--maybe shame on them for not paying attention. But again, my goal is to get them to vote in 2006 for Dems... I'll leave their souls to someone with more authority than me.

7. PS We have no free press, we have to use the phone and internet
...so what if it pisses some folks off?
What other choices do we have? If the truth hurts so be it.

9. To what end?
Are we are there to throw fireballs for the sake of doing so? Fine, Or are we actually trying to get these assholes out of office, which whether we like it or not, requires votes, and votes of people who aren't down the line, traditional dems.

I'm not saying change the substance of the message--just the tone.

11. In my call there was no tone, Just facts.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:30 AM by cassiepriam
And if facts can't sway the people then nothing can.
Our only hope is that the people can listen to reason
and make some intelligent decisions.

13. We may have gotten different calls
Mine were robo-calls and were sharply partisan--I agreed with them, of course, so maybe we got different calls. By the way, just because my husband and I disagree, doesn' mean he doesn't listen to reason and is stupid. Reasonable, intelligent people can disagree on difficult issues.

17. I smell Dean payback here.
For every blind libelous phone call the Bushies have sent out in campaign season.

Payback is a bitch.
