Shocking! AQ in Iraq says the captured letter is a fake. But the letter
fits all the Bush talking points, how could it be fake?

CNN is reporting that Al Qaeda in Iraq says the captured letter is fake.

BushCo says it is authentic. Hmmmm.

I know when I first read about it a few days ago it looked like complete BS.

1. I thought the video right before the election was also fake.
I think anything real would be written in flowery language and a literary style and contain references to the Koran that we westerners would not understand or be able to imitate.

So why would they deny doing it? What's the motivation?

In Islamic society, he occupies about the same position as Robertson and Dobson do in Christian society. Simply because he is opposed to Westetrn influence in the Islamic world is hardly a reason to suppose he is a progressive or leftist on any level. Mere anti-colonialism does not a progressive make....

30. OK - We weren't the only ones to doubt the letter - look at this:
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 02:51 PM by Pirate Smile

SPLIT OVER AUTHENTICITY

In Washington, U.S. officials and experts were split on the letter's authenticity.

"Ken Katzman, a terrorism expert with the Congressional Research Service -- the in-house think-tank of the U.S. Congress -- said the letter contained elements that raised doubts about its authenticity. "The purported letter has Zawahri admitting to certain things that it's not realistic for him to admit, because he would know there's a potential this letter might be intercepted," Katzman said."

He said they included a request for money from Zarqawi, an admission that Pakistan's army is hunting for al Qaeda and how the arrest of a top operative affected the network.

-snip-
Several experts said the letter contained far fewer Koranic references and quotations than other Zawahri statements.

11. I know. It is a weird situation. I just thought the letter was very odd
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:02 AM by Pirate Smile
from the first reports of it. It never seemed credible. I don't disbelieve it because AQ said so. I didn't believe it before they reported that.

Frankly, I know BushCo and the Pentagon have lied to us repeatedly so because they say it is true has no credibility with me.

I found the entire episode bizarre but then there has been a lot of that going around these days.

edit to add - someone has written letters and documents (Niger yellowcake claims) to try and help BushCo in their arguments, documents which have been proven to be fakes. It could be Chalabi's people or someone else who wants to help the neocons. It has happened before so our skepticism isn't that unreasonable.

Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 10:46 AM by JoZbean
But Bush more dependable. Everytime his support erodes, there's a new letter from Al Queda or Terror Alert. We've come to depend on that!

Doesn't it strike you just a little bit odd that these Al-Qaeda appearances ONLY crop up when it's politically convenient for Bush?

Doesn't it seem strange that there are probably a dozen (or more) people identified as "the number two man" of Al-Qaeda?

Isn't it weird that it was widely reported that one of those "number two" men, al-Zarqawi, lost his leg and then somehow miraculously grew it back again? That he's been reported dead at least a half a dozen different times?

Doesn't it strike you a bit odd that Bush's and bin-Laden's families have been business partners for decades?

I don't care what you think about all this. Just think.

21. I just believe the letter was fake. That was all. I'm sorry if you took
it as a defense of AQ because it certainly wasn't intended that way.

Geez, this is what the Administration does - you either believe us and what we say OR you are with the Terrorists.

Sorry, this Administration just doesn't have any credibility with me AND the letter rang false to me in the first place.

28. Stop watching Faux news!!
"Their agenda is clear: a world dominated by radical Islam with zero tolerance for anything they consider an afront to Islam; which is almost EVERYTHING you and I stand for."

This is bullsh*t. They just want us to keep our noses (and guns and bombs) out of their countries. They aren't trying to take over the world. That would be Bushco's plan of Empire.

35. And what you said dierctly contradicts the letter hence it is a fake.
Side with bushco all you want, its still fake.

Heres another thing, Osama was trained by CIA.
Bushco has been in bed with the Bin Ladens for decades.
The president you so willingly trust lied us into a war that would and only ever could bolster AQ.

This administration is the worst thing ot hit this planet since Hitler and they have a lot more pollution, greed and power that makes your last statement patently false. Just the war in Iraq alone has done more damage to the environment and the health of more people.

Research PNAC, Neo-Cons, Christian Coalition, Corporate Fascism, Global Hegemony. Really you need to before you come around making such ludicrous statements.

AQ is at best an extension of the manipulative policies of little boots and his string yankers.

BTW Bushs cult following has the same agenda and zero tolerance for those who oppose them.

25. Here - this is the only article I can find. The letter was first reported
on last week.

"Iraq's al Qaeda denounces Zawahri letter as fake-Web

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's wing in Iraq on Thursday rejected as a fake a letter by top group leader Ayman al-Zawahri which was issued by U.S. officials this week, according to an Internet posting.

"We in Al Qaeda Organization announce that there is no truth to these claims, which are only based on the imagination of the politicians of the Black (White) House and their slaves," the group said in a statement posted on an Islamist Web site about the letter.

According to the letter released this week by U.S. intelligence officials, al Qaeda's second in command Zawahri urged the group's leader in Iraq to prepare for an Islamic government to take over the country when U.S. forces leave. He also said brutal tactics risked alienating Muslims. "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051013/wl_nm/iraq_qaeda_letter_dc;_ylt=Aj2nzjhHBKrdTaSCBJutGRGs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3b3JuZGZhBHNlYwM3MjE-

The letter had a lot of information in it that just seemed like Bush TP - as soon as the US leaves Iraq we will take over Iran and Lebanon, etc. It was all neocon talk. Very weird.

don't think the media bought into it because if it was real, it should have been a bigger deal.

It felt like BushCo ringing the "Terra, Terra, Terra" bell again when poll ratings, etc. went down.
