The National Doom Inevitability Scale |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:31 AM by ck4829
I've looked at other countries that have collapsed and come up with this list. You can do it yourself, but be honest with the answers, what do you think our NDI is?
1. On a scale of 1-10, how bad is your nation's economy?
2. On a scale of 1-10, how many Extremists (Fascists, Far Right, Ideologues, etc.) are in government positions?
3. On a scale of 1-10, how much influence do Extremist Religious Figures or Corporations have over the your nation's government?
4. Count up these first three to get your National Insecurity Rating. (0 - Your nation is secure, 30 - your nation is insecure)
5. Add 5 points if your nation is at war and add 10 points if your country is in a multi-national war (war against multiple enemies)
6. On a scale of 1-10, how much influence has your government gained over the Media in a fairly recent window of time?
NDI Scale Totals
0 - Nation won't be collapsing anytime soon
10 - Reversible - Tell Congressmen to find ways to reduce the NDI
20 - Moderate danger - Strongly urge Congressmen to reduce the NDI and find other ways to reduce it too
30 - Dangerous - Develop a plan. Be prepared for calamities
40 - Extremely Dangerous - Better head for the border
50 - Doom is inevitable - No time to head straight for the border. Civil War is usually linked with this high of an NDI.

3. A bit on the nose isn't it? |

hard not to end up Dangerous or Extremely Dangerous with this set up.
Don't all nations have a thing for scapegoats if you look hard enough? I mean isn't that the basic human condition?

4. I should have specified |
|
I mean like Ancient Rome going after Christians or Nazi Germany going after Jews. That's the kind of scapegoating that I am talking about.

5. Or France going after the royals? |
|
Or Puritans going after the Witches? That sort of thing?
I don't think you'll find many nations that don't do that to a certain extent.

9. France going after the royals |

Scapegoating is an important part then, IMO.
France's government changed almost a dozen times during the time of the French revolution.
I probably should loosen it up, but I think it is important to add it.

That if everybody has a tendancy to scapegoat than it's not meaningful. Or rather it's like saying "Add 10 points if the citizens of that country walk on two legs."
I mean if you can point out some nations (or peoples) that don't at any point have some tendancy towards scapegoating, that would make it more meaningful.

10. And look at America now... |
|
Our nation is sinking further and further, quite possible because of the scapegoating of Clinton and the Liberals.

I just finished reading another DU post on the Harper's "We Now Live in a Fascist State" article. This promptly forced me to find my tin foil hat add several new layers, shut my shades and run back to the computer only to find this gem. My score - 44 - not good...
