Will Catkiller (Frist) have to step down before he retires? |

he got the subpoena this morning from the SEC. Does anyone think some of this was leaked by the WH to try and knock him out of contention for 08? I don't think he'd get the nomination anyhow but maybe this is some early kneecapping.

This (and perhaps other) investigation could easily drag on past 2008. But Frist will be forced to step down as Majority Leader next year when Democrats regain control of the Senate.
At that point he will no longer be shielded from accountability, on account of his ethics violations. Appropriately, Democrats will open the can of worms for all to see. Frist will enjoined from being Minority Leader, and from holding any other post in the Senate.
By the time 2008 arrives, we can only hope that he shall have begat a criminal conviction. But if you will suppose for a moment that my speculation will indeed come to pass as I have said, it won't matter much at that point.
In any case, he will never be re-elected.
