56. Oh wow
So was anything they were saying true? And lol something I noticed was when the woman was introducing herself she said she met Bush at an event in NYC. Bush asked her right after she said that "were you there?" Uh duh she just said so! You can easily tell this whole thing is scripted. After Bush asked her if she was there she just went straight into her script. She tried to link Iraq and 9/11. She totally messed up and said she was proud to continue the work in north central New York but than she went back and corrected herself and said Iraq. Bush wasn't interested at all in what she said before hand. Just if she was there when he came to New York that one time for some military event. :eyes:
Oh my God. He said "I probably look familiar to you too". No shit! Is this guy seriously drugged up or what?! And the Iraqi guy I wonder about. Remember the Saddam Hussein statue bit? The documentary "Control Room" the people who worked at Al-Jazeera showed us that they were not Iraqi's at all but fakes. All this guy said was "I like you". You can hear people giggling in the background.

4. "Good morning Mr. President."
Guy says it too soon and everybody chuckles at his gaffe as he goes off-script. (Shit, you can't even say "Good morning" when you want to?)

"OK, folks, this is Allison. Let's take our places please."

Hey, where's the Made-in-China "Mission Accomplished" banner?

McLellan: "Are you suggesting that what our troops said was not sincere, or that what they said was not their own thoughts?"

Great stuff, thanks.

And Scottie had the gall to deny anything was scripted?

They've really been caught with their pants down.

Of course, this has happened throughout his entire presidency, with soldiers, citizens, etc. (Town Hall mtgs...). It's just that people have the guts to call them on it now.

Things are really going downhill!!!

7. Fantastic. Love the little bit with Puffy McMoonface trying to turn the
tables on the reporter who asked why the troops were coached. P McM tried to put words in the reporter's mouth by saying "are you suggesting the troops were not sincere or were not expressing their own thoughts?". Reporter rightfully said, "that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking why the troops were coached". Never heard the answer. I'm sure there wasn't one.

Allison: "...if you have the microphone and he follows up with a question to you, you just, uh, no matter who has it, Capt. Pratt, if you have the microphone, and the President hears something and he wants more information you just keep that microphone and talk to the President.

Capt. Pratt: Okay.

Allison: All right. But if he gives us a question that's not something that we've scripted, Capt. Kennedy, you're going to have that mike and that's your chance, uh, impress us all.

Capt. Kennedy: Okay.

Allison: Which won't be a problem for you.

20. ***Olbermann covers the scripted photo-op & lying press conf TONIGHT***
From today's emailed Countdown newsletter about the show tonight (MSNBC, 8pm and midnight ET). The entire emailed newletter, which is titled ”That ‘Unscripted” TV Moment,” is posted here:

Subject: That "Unscripted" TV Moment

Date: October 13, 2005 4:01:08 PM EDT

------------------------------------------------------
Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

A handpicked group of U.S. troops told President George W. Bush on Thursday they believed the Iraqi people were eager to vote in a weekend referendum on an Iraqi constitution. In a carefully scripted event, Bush spoke to 10 U.S. troops and an Iraqi soldier in a video teleconference about preparations for the Saturday vote, which is critical to U.S. aims for democracy in Iraq and creating conditions for the ultimate withdrawal of American forces. Bush, suffering job approval ratings below 40 percent, the lowest of his presidency, is eager to show progress in Iraq as the American death toll nears 2,000. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll last month said only 32 percent of Americans approved of his handling of Iraq. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N13627152.htm

We will have excerpts of this bizarre teleconference.

And Scott McClellan's press briefing today... notable... you won't want to miss this.

Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann broadcasts LIVE at 8 pm et, and the count is never complete without you. Join us.

25. There were the 50 firefighters brought in to pose with Bush in Mississippi
after Katrina. That to me should have been a much bigger story, as these firefighters were just hanging around with the Chimp while houses were catching on fire in New Orleans. Where was the media outrage over that phoney and scripted series of events? And there was the phoney photo op of Bush in New Orleans itself, with a stage decorated with earth moving equipment that wasn't even used there, along with fake food stands. And there were the two little black girls who threw their arms around Bush who apparently didn't even reside in the disaster zone.

I too am mystified at how the media works and why the business suits in news departments decide to go with certain stories at certain times, but ignore the same issue at other times.

Take One: President Bush via Satellite

Listen to this story...(at link above)
by David Greene

President Bush spoke with members of the 42nd Infantry Division (Mechanized) National Guard unit
stationed in Tikrit via video teleconference hookup from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building Thursday. Reuters

All Things Considered, October 13, 2005 · President Bush's administration has been marked by a savvy use of technology and media strategy. From staging optimal photo-ops to conjuring message-appropriate backdrops at speeches, the president's staff has been diligent in its work.

That work has never been more important than now, with the president's polling numbers slipping and an election in Iraq looming. And so it was early Thursday, with President Bush slated to chat with soldiers stationed in Iraq, that his staff ran through his opening remarks -- and some questions -- without the commander-in-chief being present.

While it's common to use a trial run to ensure things go smoothly when the president arrives, the event, recorded by NPR, offered some insights into the meticulous nature of advance work.

Later, the president, speaking from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House, asked members of the 42nd Infantry Division (Mechanized) National Guard unit about their work in Tikrit, and answered questions from the soldiers.

This is reminiscent of the receiver strapped to Bush's back when debating Kerry. Surprisingly, there was no follow-up like today's staged teleconference with the soldiers in Iraq. Maybe big media is comng around, or more likely, the case that the rehearsal was caught and disseminated worldwide.:applause:

51. Are they trying to be distasteful?
The indignation with which Scott McClellan almost stinks of the Bush sour debate face. I am glad the press did not give a moment's rest in the afternoon briefing and he was kept on the defensive from the moment he stepped behing the podium. I don't think they are cowering anymore since they know that their access to the White House briefing is just slightly less secure than that of a gay hooker with false credentials.

We have to keep forums like this one active so that these clowns will be shamed into being honest.

Its like they know the end is near.

And when the Fitzgerald indictments hit, it will be.

62. MSM finally gets it right
It seems like the MSM doesn't have the courage to do anything until it's subject shows weakness. I applaud the MSM for its recent activity, but wish that they had done more while Bush was more popular. A little moral fiber would be appreciated.

54. I was watching the video again
And if for whatever reason someone has a doubt that it was staged there is one part of the video when Bush asks a solider a question and the solider with the mic hands it to Capitan Smith and Bush starts chatting about throwing a hardball and before hand they were all polite and waiting till he was done, but on this Capitan Smith gets mic and than just starts talking and not paying any attention to Bush chatting. When Smith introduces himself Bush chuckles and gets quickly quiet. :eyes:

61. We have a press?
I wonder who lit the candle under the press's a$$, one minute they let the Republican smear machine distort John Kerry's record, the next they're actually reporting white house B.S.

She's been in the Guard for 24 years and has written numerous articles. She is hardly your "soldier on the street." Her job is to paint a pretty picture.

66. Here's some info on 1st LT Gregg Murphy, from a RW blog
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 03:43 AM by lebkuchen
This blog belongs to Lance Frizzell, who says, "In civilian life, I'm the Press Secretary for the House Republican Caucus in the Tennessee Legislature."

*****************************************
Maj. Gen. Gus Hargett, the Tennessee National Guard's top officer, said the state Guard is above its goals for signing up new soldiers.

"Where we are struggling is prior-service personnel, people who have been on active duty with three tours in four years and are trying to get on with family life right now," he said.

Recruiters said their biggest promotional tools are combat veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq, who are helping bolster the ranks by tapping into the South s tradition of patriotism.

Lt. Gregg Murphy, of Chattanooga, is one of about 4,000 soldiers with the 278th Regimental Combat Team now in Iraq. He said in an e-mail that he would jump at the chance to "set the record straight about Iraq" by telling "the real story of soldiers, not the blood, guts and carnage."

He said returning soldiers could counter the media s focus on the losses in Iraq by talking about ongoing humanitarian work there such as new schools, libraries and water projects.

Countering the media's focus will be an ongoing struggle because they want us to lose, as do many anti-war libs. But Americans don't admire that - it makes them furious. They admire this:

Scotty says the troops are expressing their own thoughts despite being staged and scripted. That is probably true, as a lot of effort went in to hand-picking these Bush cheerleaders.

I mean wow. What did they think they would get out of something like this? George Bush, pretending to care once again.

69. On David Smith of Grand Rapids, MI-
http://washingtontimes.com/specialreport/20051002-124146-3865r_page2.htm

Capt. David Smith, 30, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and the Military Transition Team he leads will remain behind, to serve as both a liaison to the Americans and to continue mentoring Iraqi units.
During missions, Capt. Smith will serve as an observer, and when the Iraqis need backup or bigger firepower, he will be able to call in the Americans.
....He then repeats a warning that one often hears in Washington from President Bush and others -- an upsurge in attacks is likely in the days ahead.
"We are looking for the bad people who want to disrupt the election. Be listening for those people and be ready for your missions. You must be ready to fight," Capt. Smith says.
"Make sure your soldiers wear their equipment and they are ready to shoot, because are going to shoot at us.

What is wrong with him? Why doesn't someone in the white house just get frustrated and kick his ass? I'm sick of books. Thanks richard Clark, but you should have just walked up to him, told him there was a monkey behind him, and kicked him in the ass when he turned around.

77. The MSNBC shows a rehearsal of the entire event, and then Scotty
spouts there wasn't any staging of the questions? Why isn't this huge news? Why are we accepting mediocrity and tax funded propaganda from any President? With polls numbers at their lowest, the economy teetering on collapse, why are we accepting this disaster of a president? I understand there will always be some uneducated, ill-informed soldiers that will love their commander in chief no matter what, but that isn't America, that's Nazi Germany. Read the headlines today and reflect that we are in the 21st century. What's wrong with this picture?
