2. This is significant, I think
AOL political polls used to go about 50-50, but in the last few months the results been shifting away from the Wregime. This is the biggest example of that I've seen so far.

AOL polls on * usually top out at around 200,000 responses, so there's still a chance for this to move a little.

7. You can tell by their priorities.
Hurricane Katrina 16%
Rising gas prices 14%

The pocketbook is 2% less than human lives and suffering. Small difference, eh?

29. Rising (natural) gas prices can mean people freeze to death.
Poll wasn't specific.

Also, since people know Bush is an oil man and the corruption is being noted they may hold him MORE accountable for that than Iraq or Katrina - which they MAY see as stuff he could have done better on, but not something he's helped rig.

14. Very conservative?
AOL is the melting pot of the internets. Its polls tend to be pretty accurate reflections of what Mer'kins are thinking. At least, in my 12-year experience.

22. Consumerism is their party line...
Maybe I'm too far left of center to judge it clearly, but my experience of AOL news service etc. is that it is designed solely to sell what's "in." And the polls they run come back far to the right of where I am. This is one of the first times I remember the AOL polling response to jive with my responses.

So perhaps very conservative is too strong a term, but really when you look at what consumerism is designed to prop up, what the whole "American way of life" (as played by middle America)is all about it's all framed around a very conservative, big business first agenda.

33. They push poll the party line generally.
Don't know how they let this slip through. But notice the options don't include "stealing elections."

16. Done..I chose rising gas prices on the last question because even
though Iraq and Katrina were obviously the most horrific, his ratings didn't really start falling 'til gas prices soared earlier this year.

Many Americans sadly do not give a damn unless it hurts them. Now,it seems many of them are jumping on the Iraq war as his worst problem, probably to make themselves feel all moral, but IMHO it was the gas price on the pocketbook that did him in.

Whatever, I m glad to see him going down, but I really wish it was NOW,not in 3 more long ass years.

17. That poll was better than average question wise...
usually it leans more to the right, but this one seemed a little more even keeled. Maybe it's just that the stance of more Americans is changing and I haen't let myself accept this good news for fear that it is fleeting.

I took this poll a number of hours ago (6+) and since then the numbers have gone slightly more to the right.

Not by much, though, perhaps ~1% for each question.
