I saw Ashleigh Banfield on Court tv today.
She's now subbing for daytime programming.
http://www.courttv.com/press/banfield_072605.html

Didn't she get into some trouble with her bosses on MSNBC for telling the truth about the Bush WH/news propaganda? I've heard the rumors but didn't know if they were true.

3. Wow! A name forgotten.
I thought she was a rising star yet then she kind of disappeared. I'd be curious to know what happened to her as well.

4. I LOVED HER
she use to be channel 4 news in Dallas and she was great, very professional and a true journalist. She then moved to MSNBC, is that really what happened to her. i remember her during Sept. 11 and was impressed with her and CNN's Aaron Brown, both in their like first days on the job if i remember correctly.

6. She was a loud questioner about the run-up to Iraq
so much so that MSNBC fired her for asking too many questions and trying to do some investigative reporting.

9. Ha! May she get the last laugh!
Maybe she can do a special with Dan Rather.

The truth is starting to come out!

She didn't deserve that.

12. Ashleigh Banfield was disciplined for a speech she gave...
at Kansas State University in which she was critical of the Iraq War coverage.

The story is on Alternet here: MSNBC's Banfield Slams War Coverage

14. Thank you for the link. A great read!
Wow! She saw it coming, didn't she?

<snip>

And that's some of the problems we have in dealing in this war in terror. As a journalist I'm often ostracized just for saying these messages, just for going on television and saying, "Here's what the leaders of Hezbullah are telling me and here's what the Lebanese are telling me and here's what the Syrians have said about Hezbullah. Here's what they have to say about the Golan Heights." Like it or lump it, don't shoot the messenger, but invariably the messenger gets shot.

and this...

How can you discuss, how can you solve anything when attacks from a mere radio flak is what America hears on a regular basis, let alone at the government level? I mean, if this kind of attitude is prevailing, forget discussion, forget diplomacy, diplomacy is becoming a bad word.

She spoke the truth.

16. It wasn't a brilliant speech...
so much as it was a courageous one. She was saying the same thing that had been repeated thousands of times at places like DU (and by people like us) but seems to have known that (unlike in the relative anonymity of internet forums) she would be held liable for her violation of omerta and was willing to pay the price.

18. Especially noting the date: April, 2003.
All of the media was in kiss ass mode about that time.
Also thanks for giving me a new word: omerta.

13. I never quite caught it all--she did kind of fall into some
kind of disavor, but she did some real good coverage of the 2000 "recount" fiasco.

19. I'm glad to hear Ashleigh's back
Let's hope that she joins the pantheon of those who continue to tell the truth about Iraq, about Katrina, and about *. If she was removed from the air for telling the truth about the war, we need her.

20. She Also Had a Run-in with Michael WIENER-"Savage"
The Savage Wiener called her some despicable name (the C-word?) and she complained to MSRNC management, who added her complaint to their charges against her. Soon after that the Savage Wiener smashed himself against the rock wall.
