Verdict Reached In Trial Of Clerk Charged With Selling Sex Toys
Verdict Reached In Trial Of Clerk Charged With Selling Sex Toys

UPDATED: 10:51 am EDT October 13, 2005

HOUSTON -- A store clerk accused of illegally selling adult toys was found not guilty Wednesday.

Jose Escalante was arrested during a raid at the Adult Video Megaplex Houston on June 9. Houston police charged him with obscenity, alleging he was in possession of adult toys with the intent to promote and sell them. Prosecutors argued that it is illegal to sell an item designed to be used for a sexual act.

But, Escalante's attorney, Richard Kuniansky, said that he believes his client was unfairly singled out, considering hundreds of stores across the Houston area sell similar products.

However, prosecutors said the law is the law, and that anyone caught in possession of six or more adult toys deemed obscene by the law is presumed to be promoting them and could be arrested.

1. Um, how do they know he doesn't just collect them?
...and why is this illegal? Selling sex toys is illegal in Houston?
:wtf: Seriously, that is just insane!

Don't they have any other crimes to bust people for? People providing pleasure to others is illegal?

:wow:

Texas mom faces trial for selling sex toys

Joanne Webb is a mother of three, a Baptist, a booster of the town of Burleson, Texas, and a former schoolteacher. She also faces trial for being a smut merchant.

Webb, 43, was arrested in November by two undercover police officers for selling sexual toys and charged with violating Texas obscenity laws. She could face up to a year in jail and a fine of $4,000 if convicted.

Webb is a representative for Passion Parties, a California company marketing potions, lotions and sexual toys sold at gatherings that mimic Tupperware parties.

That was from back in 2004. Did she get off (if you'll pardon my phrasing)?

eta: Texas. Texas. ALWAYS with the Texas. God, what the hell is wrong with my state??!?

5. There was a study done in michigan in the 70s...
on the correlation between the number of churches and the number on adult stores in michigan cities..and it was clear that the more churches there are in a city or community, the higher the number of adult stores...sorry, i don't remember who did the study. Anyway, i just recently watched a CNN show..Aaron Brown, i think...on how Walmart is now selling adult store quality vibrators..called units, i am not kidding...ha!

7. Any city that has that many churches
needs adult stores and all the toys in them--for balance. LOL!
That sounds like an interesting study. I wish you remembered where it was, as I would be interested in reading it.

Seriously, are these people so repressed that they have to legislate the purchase of 'sex toys'?
