Minuteman co-founder says group hounded by "domestic terrorists"
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- A co-founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps says its volunteers have been harassed by what he calls "domestic terrorists" who have threatened violence.
...
"I think those groups should be investigated by the FBI as hate groups and as domestic terrorists," Simcox said in a voice mail message. "They've been showing up at our meetings and causing property damage and advocating violence."
...
Simcox said a number of Minuteman volunteers were on the U.S. Canadian border in Vermont earlier this month watching for illegal border crossings and volunteers would be there this weekend and on weekends through the end of the month.
...
"We don't typically turn it into a dog and pony show because of the aggressive groups who advocate violence against our law abiding volunteers," he said.

"We keep our volunteers pretty safe in that way since there are so many domestic terrorists here that are advocating open borders," Simcox said.

4. what groups?
there is nothing in the article about particular groups harrassing them?

All I ever heard in the past is that the Salvadorean gangs here in the U.S. (what's their name...Maratruscha, or something like that) had issued orders to assassinate Minutemen, and that Maratruscha gunmen were gonna face off with the Minutemen. I would have enjoyed seeing those fat rednecks facing off against Salvadorean punks who were born into poverty, crime, and violence in El Salvador's streets and know how to REALLY light up some fireworks.

Alas, one can't get all one dreams for.

6. There was mention of an International Socialist group protesting
It sounds like some fringe group of a few people. If the groups affiliated with the peace demonstrations were involved, there'd be more than one person to interview that represented the views, plus there'd likely be thousands present at the protests.

The Minutemen are domestic terrorists who are enjoying the support of FOX News the way al Queda is supported by al Jeezera. I do think border issues and illegal immigration are legitimate security concerns, but short of building a wall around the country, I am at a loss as to how to completely prevent illegal border crossings. Building a wall would keep us in, so that would be bad.

7. BWA-Ha-Ha-Ha!!! Stop it, you're killing me!!!!
Just cross out "domestic terrorists" and insert "goddamned liberals" in its place...

I live 5 mins from the US border, but if any of these fucktards comes close to MY property (~300 acres), they will find out EXACTLY what constitutes an "aggressive group(s) advocat(ing) violence against (their) law abiding volunteers..."

10. Minutemen are Idiots
The Minutemen have been at the border south of San Diego doing their thing before. What a bunch of morons. They seem to think Mexicans are terrorists. And they are patrolling the border with *Canada* now? Are they thinking Canadians are terrorists now?

11. The United States of America and the Canadian Border
has one unique fact untrue of most other Borders and that is it does not have a fence. People who live in the border towns of these two countries cross the border all of the time to do business, visit with friends, go fishing etc., etc., etc. and of course this is all illegal.

This was a few years ago I read this in the Los Angeles Times Magazine. Has things changed this much that we need a bunch of thugs watching what is going on at our northern border.

About three weeks ago the wifey and I were at our southern boarder with our three dogs. We were on Monument Road were it turns from north-south to east-west next to a water treatment plant. Being tourist at the time we thought that it would be a good time to take some photos, which we did. The INS was in neighborhood and saw the flash of our camera, to say the least, the officer came over and asked what we were doing there. I wanted to ask some polite questions of the officer but was unable to because of my barking dogs.
