"Doonesbury," once again, brings the war (and war crimes) home.
Gary Trudeau has again, reminded us of what is being done in our name.

The daughter of his character, B.D., Samantha, spent all week in her class at school doing show-and-tell about her father's struggle to return to some semblance of a normal life after losing a leg in Iraq.

Trudeau is doing far more than what could be labeled "a comic strip." Anyone who followed it, and didn't shed a tear or two this week, just isn't human.

The storyline spoke to the tragedy of our dead and permanently disabled soldiers who have been used, abused and died or changed forever by an incompetent, uncaring, unaware, ignorant, and despicable man in the White House who cares nothing about our troops, their families, or our freedoms.

2. And its the conservatives who "support" our troops
by enabling bush to keep them in harm's way for no apparent reason with no end in sight. Conservatives are too proud to say they were wrong and too unfeeling to be moved by Trudeau's work. Meanwhile their "support" continues to get our kids killed. How thoroughly sad and pathetic and disgusting it must be to be a conservative in America today.

3. What will be interesting
is to see if Trudeau has BD have trouble with getting continued health care, or, like the poor guy who lost his hand, get his pay garnished because he "lost" some of his equipment in the firefight.

4. What troubled me was the kid saying "She cheated. Not everybody
can have a ...".

I know it's a cartoon, but some freepturd's kid would be that way . . . and both the kid and his/her parents would upchuck when they'd see BD's leg uncovered . . .

5. The Trudeau attention to the maimed soldiers ...
I have followed it closely, and it contains the dark humor and pain of soldiers who lose body parts. These are the soldiers who will never really be soldiers again. And they find that as time passes, it's THEIR problem, not Uncle Sam's.

We talk of 2000 dead, but 6-8 times that many have come back with major missing body parts - feet, hands, eyes, etc.

Better body armor and armored vehicles have made this war less death intensive than Vietnam, but even in Vietnam, the casualties were about the same the first two years following the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.

6. Check out "Blowback" section
Scroll down a bit and read the entry "I work for Halliburton". It's a keeper.

7. Wow, that post probably deserves a thread of it's own!

- "I was looking at a diagram of a septic tank, straight out of a military manual. It, very scientifically, listed "scum" on top, a "scum free zone" in the middle and "sludge" on the bottom. My coworker asked if it was the KBR ORG chart."
