Is Bush Headed for Another Drop in His "Numbers"?
Indeed, I have been celebrating at these low poll numbers for Bush (39-38 and 37%)just like you. But I did notice that he still has something in the neighborhood of 80%-plus of his base. Well, I think something is sitting right around the corner.

Winter. I still maintain that most of this drop in popularity is "gas prices" because if you noticed the people didn't bascially react to crap until they got stung at the pump (then they started bitching about everything). Well, soon a whole bunch of lovely midwestern red states (Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska) and western states are going to have to pump up the heat. That will cut a gash a mile wide into their budgets and discretionary spending (in other words, "fun" this winter will amount to just staying home and paying the fuel bills). I'll wager by January-ish you are going to see another good 5% points roll off the boy's approval ratings. He will be fighting to keep in the 30's. And, there is nothing out there on any front that he can do to impress the people and get them back on board. They laugh at him now. He's become the national joke and kicking board just like his old man. (And that must kill the vain little bastard).

2. i'd really rather forego the happiness with his low #s
than have to see the people suffer this winter, which could end up bringing us into recession, even depression. damn him.

plus, when he's got nothing to lose, we're all in danger of the next terra alert / attack.

3. Yesterday, the MSM reported that for the first time, Shrub was losing
a % of his Pub supporters. I don't recall the numnbers, but it was interesting that it was happening.

With his stellar performance at that chat yesterday, I suspect he'll lose more of them!

4. I'm assuming that he'll tap the strategic petrolium reserve this winter

to try and keep heating oil prices a little lower, and I wonder how people will react. It's plainly NOT what the SPR is for. Will Americans go along with using that oil to keep Bush's numbers up? WIth supplys as tight as they are for the forseeable future we might *really* need that oil someday.

6. Most definitely steady or down. How much down is hard to say...
but I'd put money on 2-3 pts after yesterday's debacle, maybe more.

7. I know they are not his base but...
Did anyone see Olberman last night say his approval rating with African Americans was 2%? And since the margin of error was 3% it could actually be in the negative numbers?? I was laughing my ass off.

i use heating oil at my house - i am on the budget plan with the oil company - pay the same amount every month and settle up any difference at the end of the 12-month billing cycle. Last year my budget was $125/month, and I ended the year about even. THIS year it is $245/month. I already have ~ cord of firewood and there is a 5 week wait for FIREWOOD deliveries! there goes a little disposable income for me!!
