Rove spends hours at CIA leak grand jury

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, testified at length on Friday before a federal grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity, making a fourth appearance as prosecutors neared a decision on whether to bring charges.

Rove, the most powerful and controversial political strategist in Washington, had no comment as he entered the federal courthouse in the morning to begin his testimony, hoping to convince grand jurors he did nothing illegal. He also declined to comment when he left 4-1/2 hours later, mouthing to reporters: "Not supposed to take questions."

Two sources close to the case said Rove's lengthy appearance suggested prosecutors wanted to closely scrutinize his earlier testimony or that he was questioned about new information obtained by prosecutors.

"Being in there that long after testifying three times before can't be viewed as a particularly positive sign," said a legal source involved in the case.

"...it looks as if this scandal is about a spy who was not endangered,..."

Uhh, really? The CIA thought differently, that's why they wanted, and got, a special prosecutor. Duh.

"..a whistle-blower who did not blow the whistle and was not smeared,.."

Uhh, Einstein, the Niger docs were forged, Wilson blew the whistle and was correct. He wasn't smeared only if you have some retarded, Orwellian definition of the word.

"..and a White House official who has not been fired for a felony that he did not commit."

Heh? True, Rove hasn't been fired, but that's only because his boss is a criminal. He did however commit a felony. I guess your not up on the Espionage Act. You know, the one Franklin just plead guilty to? It's a felony.

"And so far the only victim is a reporter who did not write a story about it."

Victim? Hardly. Co conspirator and now probably snitch.

Sucks for you to have to defend these criminals. Must rot your brain, apparently.

Judy refusing to answer questions. Maybe it is the grey Ohio skies?

16. Must have been fascinating testimony.
Think of it. The grand jury is sitting through all this. Fitzgerald would have lost their attention months ago if the testimony wasn't pretty interesting.

18. That is a long time for just the Prosecutor to be asking questions.
I have served on a Grand Jury. Usually the Prosecutor will ask some very pointed questions of a witness. This doesn't necessarily take that long because he knows exactly what he wants to ask. But the real fun begins when the members of the GJ are allowed to ask questions of the witness. That is when things could have gotten a little hairy for Rove. No doubt Rove had a pretty good idea of what questions the Prosecutor was going to ask and was somewhat prepared. But sometimes a GJ will ask something "off the wall" enough to rattle the witness. M guess is that this was not a pleasant experience for Herr Rove.

19. Yup. That's the best part of GJ proceedings 'cause the jurors get to,...
,...participate akin to an investigator AND attorney!!!

If they required four and a half hours to pin him down, I'll bet he is in such deep caa caa!!!

:woohoo:
