Police: Men planned to kill Jaguars cheerleader

Associated Press

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- A man who was fatally shot by police was part of a botched conspiracy with two other men to kidnap and kill a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader and steal her Mercedes, police said on Thursday.

Police were investigating Jamie Lee Williams, 22, who was shot and killed on the beach on Tuesday after he pointed a gun at a Jacksonville Beach police officer, when they found out about the kidnapping plot, said Neptune Beach Police Chief David Sembach.

"Had he survived, he would have been charged also," Sembach said on Thursday.

The men targeted the woman because one of them used to live in the apartment above her and knew she drove a Mercedes, with a vanity tag which read, "The Roar," which is the name of the Jaguars cheerleading squad, Sembach said.

look myself in the mirror and say, "I love my state. I love my state. Nothing wrong with Florida. I love my state..."

4. Carl Hiassen has no trouble getting new subject matter for his books.

All he has to do is read the newspaper. He could combine this story with the exploding, alligator stuffed python story.

2. Damn, those cheerleaders get good salaries??
If I had known I could afford a Mercedes I might have kept my pompoms past high school.

5. Those cheerleaders get crap salaries.
Something like a couple hundred bucks a game.

But the players can be very generous.
