'Today' Reporter Paddles in Shallow Water

NEW YORK - If Michelle Kosinski's canoe had sprung a leak on NBC's "Today" show Friday, she didn't have much to worry about.

In one of television's inadvertently funny moments, the NBC News correspondent was paddling in a canoe during a live report about flooding in Wayne, N.J. While she talked, two men walked between her and the camera — making it apparent that the water where she was floating was barely ankle-deep.

(cut)

Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.

"It's not like we were trying to pass it off as something it wasn't," spokeswoman Lauren Kapp said.

This is the PERFECT illustration of the "we make news" Corporate Media we have today in this country.

1. It was hilarious
even Matt and Katie were giving her a hard time - and there was no way in hell she had any idea of how to paddle the canoe.

4. Just like the hurricane footage ...
where the report is all bundled in rain gear, and then some guy walks by with a muscle shirt on like nothing is going on.

Cheers
Drifter

5. Now hold on a sec...
It's not easy to canoe in ankle deep water.

For one, the paddle will only go ankle deep into the water.

6. I didn't see it, but unless the camera SHOWED the paddle in the water...
She was probably pretending to paddle.

Anyone?

Long Island here. I am talking major roadways. Completely flooded out. Trucks were PUMPING them on my way home from work. Accidents? Forget it. From Tuesday through yesterday, we got from 9 to 14 inches of rain. Don't know what today's rainfall was, but was torrential all day. I am not talking about RIVERS overflowing here, just the RAIN. Eventually, there is nowhere for it go.

14. LOL
during Rita down here in the Keys, CNN had a reporter on Duval Street...who literally kicked his foot into a widdy biddy puddle and said "look! look! and this will get much worse!" We were in hysterics because a heavy rain will cause flooding down here ANYTIME and that puddle was probably nothing...maybe a drunk pissing in the street. They will do ANYTHING to manufacture news.
