US cannot explain suspicious Zawahri letter passage

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence officials who released a letter purporting to be from an al Qaeda leader to Iraq insurgency leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi this week said on Friday they could not account for a passage that has raised doubts about the document's authenticity.

The July 9 dated letter, which U.S. officials say was written by al Qaeda's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahri, appears near its close to urge the Iraq insurgent leader to send greetings to himself if visiting the Iraqi city of Falluja.

"My greetings to all the loved ones and please give me news of Karem and the rest of the folks I know," says an unedited English translation posted at http://www.dni.gov, the office Web site of U.S. intelligence chief John Negroponte.

"And especially, by God, if by chance you're going to Falluja, send greetings to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi," it states. snip

A spokesman for Negroponte, who is the U.S. director of national intelligence, or DNI, acknowledged the greetings passage was confusing but said the intelligence community was confident the letter was addressed to Zarqawi by Zawahri.

"We don't know what to make of it (the passage). It's unclear," the Negroponte spokesman said.

That fake terror threats are a tool of the bush gang is no longer in question. They benefit from scaring the people. So do terrorists.

What is still a question, to some, is did they (9*11) and do they (9*11 on) have a hand, or have hands all over, actually committing the acts that create terror.

I'm sure the people of Baghdad and Faluja (sp?) could shed some light on that.

12. I know what to make of it. TYPO!! gets the best of us.
When you write anything that is extensive, catching all the typos, mistakes, awkward syntax, dangling participles, AND NAMES is a ball-buster. Spelling, too. The one that slipped by here strongly suggests a cut and paste job that was sloppy. Oops, someone forgot what the scam was!

You knew they made it up, but this confirms it without a doubt.

You know why, don't you? The US pro-war types can't keep the names straight. There's al-Zawahiri and there's al-Zarqawi. Only to those who don't really pay attention to the differences are these two capable of being confused. One is an Egyptian doctor who is Osama's REAL number two guy, and the other is a free lance Jordanian Sunni fighting in Iraq with insurgents.
