FEMA $2,000 Cash Card -- FINE PRINT
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 09:12 PM by Kralizec
Sorry if this is a repeat or if everyone already has heard this.

I just had a friend from New Orleans drop in on his way to California. He had been waiting around NO until he got his FEMA card. He finally got it about a ten days ago... long wait, eh? Anyway, he told me it is not 2k up front, it is $200/month for 10 months. What kind of help is that???!!! Do you know about this already?

Peace.

edit: spelling

2. Hmmm....
Wouldn't that immediately give the lie to those RW stories about buying designer handbags with the cards?

Who'da thunk?

4. As long as his cardboard box is close to the soup kitchen....
...nah, he'd STILL starve!

How is $200 gonna help anyone who has lost EVERYTHING?

Just one more lie from the most shameless, soulless,
greedy, sack-of-monkeyshit excuse-for-an-administration
to EVER darken the White House door.

B*sh is evil. It's really just that simple.

5. The right hand giveth and the far right hand taketh away.
No surprise if this is really so. Just more evidence of their reptilian soullessness.

6. I'm not sure this is true.
First of all, FEMA only gave the $2000 debit cards out for two days, and only in Texas, so your friend wouldn't have gotten one in New Orleans. They started giving out checks or direct deposits to banking accounts after that. At one point they talked about giving out cards in smaller denominations as needed, presumably to people who didn't have a bank account or a way to cash the check.

There were scams being run in Houston when the cards were first handed out, where people would convince evacuees they had to withdraw the whole 2000 at once, and then they would either rob them or con them out of it. This wouldn't make sense if all 2000 wasn't available at first.

Also, FEMA's web page makes it sound like the money is all available up front. They even have a FAQ on why you should keep the full $2000 even if you don't think you needed that much.

I could be wrong, but I haven't found anything to support what your friend is saying.

12. The smaller denominations for less needy? That might explain it. But the
moment I heard about it I was surprised because I thought it was a blanket regulation.

Peace.

9. Your friend is lying to you, unfortunately.
The $2000 is on one card. You can go to the FEMA site itself for verification if you'd like - or you can keep believing your friend.

11. He's not political, like me. He was merely stating a fact in his
experience.

But hey, hearsay is hearsay, isn't it. Take it with a grain of salt. I know he wasn't lying to me though. No need to. $200/month for 10 months is what he is getting.

Peace

14. He told me FEMA. Whether or not he is mistaken or not is one thing.
Look, I told you he doesn't keep up with things like some people here do. Maybe he lined up at Red Cross Card line? All I know is he told me he just came from NO, which I know he *lived* in, and said he is getting $200/month for 10 months. He didn't complain, he was just telling me what he got.

Peace.
