Concerning the Plame case..what if there is no target?
Would there be one if Fitz was going for a criminal conspiracy case?

2. You mean not a specific target. Not one or two people but rather
a ring of criminals?

6. That's what I had in mind.
It seems they tried to muddy the waters and that smacks of a conspiracy. There would be no specific "target" in a case like that, but they would all be targeted as a group.

5. My pipe dream:
Fitz takes an entire HOUR to read all the names and indictments at his press conference.

4. 9/11
I've long wondered if, as a result of the investigations they'll solve some of the 9/11 puzzle. That would be stunning.

7. What I find stunning
is the fact that there have been so few leaks out of this investigation. It's a good thing, but it does lead to rumor and innuendo. We just gotta wait, folks, and hope.

8. Just think. All the leaks have been from the perps' lawyers.
Consider what that means about the character of the info. It must be very difficult to spin this stuff in the perp's direction. Regardless of this fact, the info coming out is pretty damning.

9. Conyers has asked for a full report, regardless.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/12/politics/12leak.html

In another development, four senior House Democrats wrote to Mr. Fitzgerald in a letter dated Oct. 12, urging him to issue a final report to Congress when he concludes his inquiry. Such a report, they said, should address "all indictments, convictions and any decisions not to prosecute."

The letter was signed by the top Democrats on their respective committees: John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, Judiciary Committee; Jane Harman of California, Intelligence Committee; and Tom Lantos of California, International Relations Committee. The letter was also signed by Rush D. Holt of New Jersey, the senior Democrat on the intelligence panel's policy subcommittee.

A report, the letter said, would assure the public that "the investigation of this serious matter has been undertaken with utmost diligence and has been free of partisan, political influence."

The representatives said Mr. Fitzgerald had the authority to issue such a report under the terms of his appointment as special counsel at the Justice Department.

12. If a larger number
of people participated in a conspiracy, they are by definition the targets. "No target" would imply no wrong-doing.

target letters then?

17. Technically the DOJ isn't required to issue target letters prior to

indictment. Generally they're used as a heads up, oh by the way, you are being investigated. Or before/when a target is called, subpoenaed to testify, so there is no doubt that there is jeopardy.

Recall reportedly Fitz sent a letter to Rove prior to his last visit to the grand jury and said there is no guarantee that he won't be indicted. Luskin said there was no target letter, but it's as close as one gets to a target letter without actually being a target letter if that's the case.

If Fitz is going for indictments he might send target letters so there is no confusion or claims of blindsiding. And perhaps some targets might be inclined to cooperate further.

I may be reading too much into things, but it seems that Rove and Libby have gone to ground so to speak. Rove leaves court and goes home rather than to work, cancels fundraising engagement. Libby's previously loquacious lawyer, Tate, wasn't returning calls to journalists (think it might have been the WaPo that said that?).

I have a feeling Fitz isn't completely done with Scooter. May want him to revisit some issues, points. Especially after Judy's star turn.

We'll see. Less than two weeks in the grand jury term. It could be extended though.
