My letter in response to this "boycott"
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 07:16 AM by southernleftylady
I am the proud mom of a little boy so have not has an interest in the "American Girl" series of dolls but to boycott them because they support an organization that serves a greater purpose in trying to help nurture smart and strong girls makes no sense. If you want to boycott based on that premise then you could, in theory, boycott Dick Cheney for his support of his lesbian daughter that helped in his campaign.

1. I sent them an email and bought 5 bracelets yesterday at Bath & Bodyworks
I told the store manager to be sure and order more because there were only 2 left. I gave one to my fundie neighbor whose life revolves around American Girl dolls (she has 6 dolls). She is home schooled, not allowed to wear shorts or bathing suits, and can't play with Bratz dolls. She loved the bracelet. The mom had not seen them yet which really surprised me. I wonder if she has figured it out yet!! I'd love for her to wear it to church on Sunday!

Maybe they could catch on to the idea that even if this is so, it sure makes ChicaAzul and I feel better about where our hard earned $$$$ goes!

4. Your letter is great - and a reminder.
I meant to send an email last night, but got distracted. I just sent a positive (anti-boycott) message to the following:

Jules.Andres@mattel.com
ellen.brothers@americangirl.com
susan.jevens@americangirl.com

They are going to be inundated with hate mail from American Family Association supporters. Everyone should go to Girls Inc. site to see what a positive organization it really is and then write to the above to tell them that you support the American Girl/Girls Inc affiliation.

http://www.girlsinc.org/ic/page.php?id=1

"Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas. Today, innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives."
