Can someone direct me to a Democratic weblog...
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 07:59 AM by AlphaCat
...where I can ask ANY question I want? DU is a wonderful site--it's big, has lots of features, is exceptionally easy to use, and the breaking news feature often beats the local news here; I was hoping to find a site just like it, but I'm not familiar with all the best Dem blogs out there. (BTW, Because the news feature here IS so good, I don't need another site that has one).

Thanks!

1. Is your problem at DU
that you don't get answers or discussion on your posts, or that you get flamed too easily?

5. None of those.
I am simply aware that if I ask the 'wrong' question here, or phrase something the 'wrong' way, I could get tombstoned. Since you never know exactly what's going to do that until it's too late, it's impossible to re-phrase it. I am trying to be careful in advance, but that leaves questions in my mind--lots of them.

4. You can ask any question you want here but...
you can't expect people not to post replies or mods to delete your posts if you post things that incite a flame-war, support the Neo-cons or is just plain stupid. I have inadvertantly done all three. You have to learn how to frame the questions and the posts so you don't get the backlash. Unless you want the backlash, then you have to learn how to write it so you won't get deleted or locked.

Whenever you write, you have to write for the intended audience. This is a Progressive Democrat website and you have to build around that. You also have to develop a thick skin and stick to your guns when you feel necessary. IT's just like any discussion, anywhere in the world. You can't scold Muslims in a mosque without catching flack or being run out if your arguement is merely devisive with little substance. So ask ANY question you want but be prepare to recieve ALL answers or even a deleted post from time to time.

Welcome to DU!

7. I think this is correct
I have many times chimed in with opinions that are not necessarily 1000 percent progressive, because I am pretty moderate in most things. I rarely get flamed..but I do sometimes evoke some strong discussion. I enjoy that.

I think the big thing is you can't expect to push a personal agenda here, if it runs contrary to progressive ideals. That's why freepers are picked out so easily.

Many times when I do put in something contrary to the party line, I am gently set straight and learn something. You have to be willing to accept facts you didn't know, and also be flexible in your thinking.

9. Sometimes, questions are just questions.
You only get one chance here--if someone takes offense, and they have more posts than you do, you're gone.

Sometimes, part of the figuring out process involves questions. I asked one--why is the Plame thing such a big deal?--and got some good answers; I really didn't understand all the issues involved. If I want to know why the Plame thing is such a big deal, then that's pretty much the question I need to ask. Sure, someone could easily have thought I was a 'Freeper'--some questions DO come out like the other side is asking them. But if the Democrats want their party to grow, it needs to answer them.

8. I look for answers where I can best get them.
I didn't say I expected people not to post replies, or the mods not to delete my posts if I posted something to incite a flame war.

I have no idea what supports the Neo-cons, or does not.

I have no idea what the thousands of members here consider 'stupid'.

I DO write for the intended audience, I DO have a thick skin, and I am perfectly able to stick to my guns.

I am prepared to receive ALL answers.
