Idaho Sen. Craig: some Gulf areas should be abandoned
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 10:48 AM by IDemo
Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig's suggestion to return a New Orleans neighborhood to wetlands and charges of widespread corruption there raised the ire Friday of Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu.

"Louisiana and New Orleans are the most corrupt governments in our country and they always have been," Craig was quoted in the Star News in McCall Thursday. "A rookie cop on the ground in New Orleans, they pay him or her $17,000 starting pay and then wink and say you better make the rest of it on the street."

He told the Lewiston Tribune in an interview published Friday that some areas of the Gulf, including New Orlean's flooded 9th Ward, should be abandoned.

"I'm not humorous when I suggest we should turn it back to what it was, a wetland," he told the Tribune.

1. Even if he can say he's right on the facts, it's really poor taste.
Unbecoming of a senator at a time like this. After all, the populace should not bear the burden of flawed local, state, AND federal governments purely on their own backs.

2. I suggest a chronologic return to wetlands, last developed first ditched.

3. Craig is probably a racist as well as an idiot with no understanding
of diddley-shit.

New Orleans IS inevitable because of the unique combination of geography and economics.

4. Perhaps Larry should suggest 'abandoning' the PERSIAN Gulf?!?
It's up to the people, not Senator Craig! I really tire of these fascists playing Lord and Master, usurping the people's rights to self-determination.

5. An IDAHO senator says this?
I'm all for outsiders sometimes having an objective opinion that those close to the area may not have...

but seriously, this guy should STFU. Unless he's saying his state would be open to all residents of that area?

6. That's what I say to him. A guy from Idaho of all places has no right
to say this sort of thing.

9. freedom of speech allows folks to "dehood" themselves
for everyone to see in the bright light of day.

7. keep talking senator... go on and on and on... defend yourself
and make your self look worse and worse... Just giving us dems TONS of election year material in making clear what "compassionate conservatism" REALLY means. I only say this because these folks are really starting to drop their masks - and the more the American public sees - esp how widespread this cr*p seems to be in the GOP - the more folks drop the scales from their eyes and start beholding the real essence of the GOP - while their stomaches slowly turn.

8. Wetlands In The Middle Of A City?
Uh...Senator Pompus Doofus...the places where the real wetlands once were are now the remnants of oil and chemical refineries that turned St. Bernard Parish (which is predominately white) into a toxic soup. It was the destruction of those wetlands that made the flooding worse.

Honestly, I love when these asshats talk this crap as it not only gets back to the NOLA residents, but also shows, yet again, more GOOP racism at work. The "codewords" aren't working anymore.

Hopefully someone will call out Craig on this latest Repugnican racist slam.
