Group Threatens to Boycott American Girl
<snip>
NEW YORK - American Girl, manufacturer of a highly popular line of dolls and children's books, has become the target of conservative activists threatening a boycott unless the toy maker cuts off contributions to a youth organization that supports abortion rights and acceptance of lesbians.

The protest is directed at an ongoing American Girl campaign in which proceeds from sales of a special "I Can" wristband help support educational and empowerment programs of Girls Inc., a national nonprofit organization which describes its mission as "inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold."

American Girl, whose often patriotic products have long had a loyal following among conservatives, issued a statement Friday defending its support of Girls Inc. and assailing the protest campaign.

Sorry if this is a dupe, but I didn't see it anywhere.

I'm sick to death of these fucking fundimentalists spreading their hatred and narrow mindedness. Every little girl I know if is getting an American Girl product for Christmas.

UPDATE: It appears American Girl may be rejecting your email sent through our system. If you receive a rejection message, you can use these email addresses to send your message from your PC browser:

Mattel Chairman Bob Eckert - Jules.Andres@mattel.com
American Girl President Ellen Brothers - ellen.brothers@americangirl.com
Public Relations Susan Jevens - susan.jevens@americangirl.com

Please tell American Girl (owned by Mattel) you are disappointed(APPOVE - ME) that they are now aligning themselves with Girls Inc., a pro-abortion, pro-lesbian advocacy group.

I suggest just putting the "OK" in the subject area as they may not be opening these.

3. Most Girls Inc. centers are in low income areas
From the Girls Inc. site - the ones the doll is made for and who sell the bands to support girls. Tell me these programs are not hurting the poor in America.

Membership Girls Inc. programming can be offered anywhere girls are
found, including Girls Inc. centers, schools, churches, community
centers and housing projects. The majority of Girls Inc. centers are
located in low–income areas and provide a weekly
average of 30 hours of after-school, weekend and summer activities.

This just pisses me off.

I agree, those bastards are trying to strong arm the rest of us. Gee, I wonder where they got it from?

5. The conservatives already have after-school programs for teen girls...
For American girls, there's helping-out with Mom around the kitchen.

For young girls in other countries, there are programs assembling products in factories for Wal-Mart.

And for young under-privileged boys, there is a free program they can join by calling 1-800-GO-ARMY.

Their own kids can simply earn some extra money as a caddy at Daddy's Country Club.
