How much does Rove make, anyway?

Top adviser to US President George W. Bush, Karl Rove, leaves his home in Washington, DC. Rove testified for a fourth time before a grand jury about the leaked identity of a CIA agent, which opponents call politically motivated(AFP/Getty Images/Mark Wilson)

8. What was it that FReepers hated about communism... Something about
How the leaders have all the goods, while the average public citizen has nothing... And how the leaders keep the public in check with lies and propaganda...

I believe that was their complaint, right?

Stalin never really practiced what he preached, let his people starve while he lived a life of luxury and enjoyed the finer things...

Yeah, I seem to remember some right wingers telling me that.

Good thing it doesn't happen here, right?

Asswipe makes around 160K and that is the least expensive Jag in the lineup.

Anyway, I'll bet he got one heck of a deal.

Most of those models I have seen were driven by middle aged women.

Country club Jag.

18. Don't pick on him too much over a car. I used to drive a Lincoln
Mark VIII. Bought it used, three years old with 30,000 miles for $18,000. Sweet ride--0-60 in six seconds, every conceivable luxury, 29 mpg highway and at 5000 pounds would keep up with a Trans Am. With 4 wheel independent suspension and anti lock disks at all four corners it would corner like a rat in a drain pipe (compared to comparable autos).

Besides, when did progressives become the car police? How do we justify telling someone what they should drive? I thought it was only the Republicans that wanted to stick their noses in everyone's personal life.

20. I'm not with you guys on this one
A $45K car isn't that big of a deal. Normal people own $45K cars. Hell, the typical behemouth SUV costs that much. And you see them everywhere.

Getting into this type of class warfare where we hate anyone who has a little bit of money is quite counterproductive. At $160K/yr, Rove isn't all that highly compensated. When the AVERAGE income in the Washington DC area is around $75K/yr and you know that that stat is weighted down by the unemployed and college kids and recent grads, etc, you have to understand that the $100-200K range is a typical professional salary. It's a far cry from those multi-million dollar a year CEO salaries.

In order to win elections and influence public policy, thse professionals are exactly the kind of people we should be targeting. They are generally well educated and intelligent. And many of them are socially liberal.

Affording a $45K car (or making $160K/yr) doesn't make one an enemy to us.

There are PLENTY of reasons to hate Karl Rove. This is not one of them.

Mostly for the damage he has single-handedly done to the democratic process in this country. But he's worthy of hate for many other reasons as well.

Driving a $45K car is not on my list.

so they can work while being driven around. I was extremely surprised to read the description of him driving himself in to the capitol from home. He certainly has more power than any Senator or Governor, and they have at least a "driver" (often with military training/background) . Tom Ridge, while governor of PA, had a chauffered Lincoln Continental and was accompanied everywhere by four state police officers, dressed in civilian clothes mimicking the secret service, down to shades and earphones. (They would follow him in a second, matching Lincoln continenetal.Of course, Ridge had delusions of becoming President one day.
So I would have thought Rove would always have a secret service guy also with him for protection- particularly given how paranoid the White House heavies are. Guess he doesn't dare risk some enlisted non-com or secret service man overhearing his criminal conspiracies/ fraudulent dealings.

before it's too late and the draconian new laws set in - don't you think the displaced in the Gulf Coast, who have to pay back their emergency relief funds - don't you think the unemployed due to tax breaks to the outsourcers - don't you think they all be interested to know that the weasel Rove drives around in a Jag? It's not the image they usually try to project for themselves.

I despise Karl Rove and all he stands for, and am really not sure how he afforded that car on $160,000 living in DC. Graft I would guess.

43. 'Investments' and 'Consulting'...from dKospedia...
'Consulting business and work in politics in 1990-2000
In 1993, according to the New York Times, John Ashcroft's campaign paid Karl Rove & Co. over $300,000 to aid his (eventually successful) Senate race. In 1999, the George W. Bush campaign effort paid Karl Rove & Co. $2.5 million for July through December. According to Rove, "About 30 percent of that is postage."

After the presidential elections in November 2000, Karl Rove organized an emergency response of Republican politicians and supporters to go to Florida to assist the Bush campaign's position during the recount.

George W. Bush was inaugurated in January 2001. Rove accepted a position in the Bush administration as Senior Advisor to the President. The President's confidence in Rove is such that during a meeting with South Korean president Roh Moo-hyun on 14 May 2003, President George W. Bush brought only Rove and then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.

Other Republican politicians who have sought Rove's advice include Arnold Schwarzenegger, who met with Rove on 10 April 2003, to discuss whether the actor should run for Governor of California in 2006.'

http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Karl_Rove#Consulting_business_and_work_in_politics_in_1990-2000'

Hmmmm....appears to be that

Controversies
In March 2001, Rove met with executives from Intel, successfully advocating a merger between a Dutch company and an Intel company supplier. Rove owned $100,000 in Intel stock at the time. In June 2001, Rove met with two pharmaceutical industry lobbyists. At the time, Rove held almost $250,000 in drug industry stocks. On 30 June 2001, Rove divested his stocks in 23 companies, which included more than $100,000 in each Enron, Boeing, General Electric, and Pfizer. On 30 June 2001, the White House admitted that Rove was involved in administration energy policy meetings, while at the same time holding stock in energy companies including Enron.

June 23, 2005 marked another controversial statement from Rove, when he said that "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Conservatives, he said, "saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war." <4> The U.S. Senate voted unanimously on S.J. 23 - (98 yeas, 2 republicans not voting) to authorize the use of military force in retaliation for the September 11th terrorist attacks. <5> Rove's comment has caused Democrats to demand an apology or resignation, while the White House and other Republicans stand behind him. Families of September 11, a nonprofit organization founded in October 2001 by families of those who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks, issued a statement requesting Rove "resist his temptations and stop trying to reap political gain in the tragic misfortune of others."<6><7>
