11. All persons with particular skills
need to organize in their communities and link up with others across the globe.

Farrakhan is making real sense here because Bushco already has parallel ministries. Set up our own schools, newspapers, farms, businesses, etc.
Garvey said all of that eons ago.

16. ABC reported online "thousands" and a lot less than the first MMM
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 04:07 PM by ultraist
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1217238

The event appeared smaller than the Million Man March, with crowds dispersed between the U.S. Capitol steps across to the grassy Mall. A decade ago hundreds of thousands stretched from the Capitol to the Washington Monument, although just how many actually attended that rally remains in dispute.

---
It doesn't seem to be making any front page news and they are already under reporting attendance numbers.

And spins everything to suit their agenda although I have seen a bit of improvement on some reporting, recently. I suppose they feel it's safe enough to report some truth, since Bush's ratings are rock bottom low.

On that stage today we have Proud Black people that are not afraid to speak their minds and tell the world what they think.

That is truly unique and as a Black person, I love every minute o it.
That is the way we talk in conversatons with each other.

Guess those that are afraid of the message are equally afraid that a Black Man/Woman would dare to talk back to the Chimp right in his front yard.

He is such a wimp that he is "vacagioning" at Camp David.

Note: Question Bronx Boy- who was the handsome young man that was the first to call for the impeachment of GWBush today? As I recall he was a Black Muslim based on his attire.

Some at DU said it was the son of Malcolm but, to my knowledge Malcolm had only daughters.
Then who was that man? He was awesome and a rising star.

19. My opinion - we need separate groups and mixed groups -
As a woman, I need women's groups - a place where I hear my own voice coming from the mouths of my sisters.

As a participant in Native American ceremonies I see the healing that happens when Natives come together for the purpose of loving, growing their own culture.

I am wary of debating separate vs. combined -- this comes up all the time on the left as we work to be as inclusive as possible -- we need BOTH, IMO, separate and combined.

land to AfAm Revolutionaries -- I liked Farrakhan's statement about how a tropical storm got elevated to hurricane -- IT GOT ORGANIZED!

:woohoo:

Oh, wow - flashbacks to the 60's: We need a Ministry of Human Services that provides medical care; we need a Ministry of Agriculture to get healthy food into the cities; we need a Ministry of Education because the western system of education has run its course and is no longer worthy of our children -- (uh, oh - he doesn't mean religious education, does he? - I don't agree with everything he has to say).

Our brothers are in the wrong war - they are fighting a war in the streets against each other or they are fighting an unjust war in Afghanistan or Iraq. Young Men Come On - we need a Ministry of Defense - to defend our communities.

We need a ministry of Art & Culture.

How many showed up? How many showed up for the ANSWER rally? Why is it always Conyers and Sheila Jackson Lee who show up? Where is the Democratic party rally. Why aren't they seizing this moment in time.

Why blame those who are willing to organize themselves? The Dems would have to offer a better deal with some competition. They would have to stop their silence.

Did you even bother to look at all of the pictures from Katrina?

I'm disappointed that the Democratic leadership didn't grow a pair and call the repsonse to Katrina what the majority of Black folk believe: A total and monumental slap in the face to Black people. I don't even want to go into the whole levee rumor thing.

We've been loyal Democratic supporters when a lot of other Democratic supporters were not so loyal. Go talk to the soccer moms and Christians who helped "repugs keep congress, and condi (or worse) slithers into the white house, 'cause they're busy making a point."

Dean spoke out and said race played a factor in the slow response. Edwards released a statement and spoke out, Clark also spoke out as well, Kerry was in Iraq when Katrina hit, but released a statement and reached out (and still is) to Katrina victims. The CBC was extremely vocal about the slow response as well.

I don't agree with all the democrats, but there are some who did speak out, the media is not covering them.

105. Speak Bronx Boy, Speak!

I didn't read it that he wanted us to do what Moonie wants us to do!

I read it that he wants us to THINK!

He was saying to Black America, " put the pressure on the Democrats and make them know that WE mean business. WE need to make sure that we have a FIRM seat at the table, not just a stool with three legs.

Ferrakan listens to a lot of people and he had them on TV today.

He mentioned that if we are firm in our demands, that gives our Black elected officials more POWER.

That is exactly the same thing that Conyers and Rangel have said for years.

His message was brilliant!

He empowered Black America today and Black America heard him loud and clear.

My 85 year old mother was listening and she said," Why can't he be President, he makes more sense than that idiot in the WH!"

fix our house from the inside out, don't demolished it.

i've just got a baaad feeling about farrakhan's speech. great speeches made by great people today. but then reality has to kick-in.

this should be about registering, voting on machines with paper trails. when dems see record numbers at the polls, and honest voting machines counting those votes, they'll do what policitians do, once they know we've got their backs... they'll be beholden to us because we proved we CAN make a difference.

we can fix our party without confusing, dividing and ultimately destroying it.

103. You say you're Black....
I gotta take you at your word. But I gotta tell you, this circle the wagons around the Dems just ain't working for me. Farrakhan has never had a major following in the Black community. When most Black folk wake up tomorrow, we aren't going to say "Damn that was a great speech the Brother put on yesterday, I'm going to down to the mosque and sign up! Throw them pork chops out because I'm a changed man!!!!!!!!!!"

Nader took a certain segment from the Dems for whatever reason. This new party,(and I'm not sure I agree with it but for altogether different reasons) may flee the coup too.

So at some point, you have to ask the question: Why should people stay with a party that has pretty much stood by while they got f**ked? I mean, at some point, shouldn't it be a matter of the party keeping the people and not the people keeping the party?

I just dashed off a stinging response to the latest MoveOn survey, asking them why no mention has been made of mobilizing for the MMM or the World Can't Wait rally in Nov. and asking them exactly what action do they consider important at this ripe time!

138. At their core, they're politicians.
That's what they do for a paycheck. When politics is your career, you don't take chances, period. The thing is, the more we show out, the more we make it known that we are willing to DO something, and that it might be in their better interest to get off their asses and start appealing to the giant-ass group of politically motivated voters marching outside their office, the more we're going to start seeing them. But don't expect them all to come running this time or even the next time. They don't place bets they aren't sure they'll win. Elections are coming up in 2006, and you can bet they're aware of this fact. Don't everyone just go home and be back to business as usual. Keep the pressure on. Make sure you're registered to vote. Contact your Congressmen. Often. If they don't believe you're willing to participate, they aren't going think about you. However, if they realize that the 2006 election is going to have a record voter turnout, and that the majority of the voters are expecting someone who will DO something about this shit, someone's going to stand up.

110. So are you saying that
Afro Americans should get back to your message and ignore their own issues. Farrakhan merely suggested that they organize themselves and make the Dems show some respect and take their issues seriously. You can't blame them for believing that Dems only want their votes.

Bill Clinton Supports Million More March

Clinton, who remains extremely popular among African-Americans, said that another march, followed by aggressive organizing efforts, could help to curtail some of the challenges in the Black community, which range from high unemployment and alarming prison rates.

“Jesse and Mr. Farrakhan and Rev. Sharpton probably have internal domestic political differences, but they’ve agreed on this and I think it’s a good thing,” said Clinton. “I like the idea of a march, but I think it would also be good at the march for them to say, ‘We want to call your attention to this problem and here’s something else you can do. And that it’s fine to be concerned about security, but we also have to keep trying to make America strong and better here at home. And we can’t neglect the quality of our jobs, the quality of our education, the quality of our environment.’”

I have rarely listened to him, because I am aware of his role in Malcolm's death. But he is making a lot of sense today. I'm not going to accept everything he says on face value -- in fact, not anything. But he's saying some important things today.

Cleo Manago does not consider himself to be gay...

<snip>Cleo Manago, founder of the Black Men’s Xchange, who identifies as ‘same gender loving’ and not gay, said he would likely speak at the Millions More Movement march this weekend. <snip>

His mother is Qubilah, and he would be about 20 years old now. He's remained a rather private figure, despite the publicity given him in the aftermath of his grandmother's death. As far as I know, there are no pictures of him publicly available and he's never made himself available for any interviews or commentary.

in much of what he said. And I respect the fact that he has the ability to put much of it in motion. I also realize that when a person talks like he talked yesterday, about changing a significant portion of the economic system in this country, and they talk about it in a manner that implies they will actually put those words into action, they are brave in a way that indicates they have conquered the fear of death. That seems consistent with what you are saying.

Five men were held following an explosion which injured ten people outside the popular Smokey and Bunty bar in St James last night.

National Security Minister Martin Joseph told TV6 News that five were arrested in connection with the incident. Sources said two men were arrested on the compound of the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen shortly after the blast at 7.10 p.m.

TV6 reported last night that a top member of the Jamaat has been questioned.

Is this divide and conquer, or something else? Since I've already been insulted tonight for raising this question in a thread I started, here's the link for those who don't believe me:

Listen to this story...(at link above)
by Allison Keyes

All Things Considered, October 15, 2005 · Organizers have invited a multitude to gather on the National Mall today for the Millions More Movement, a 10th anniversary commemoration of the Million Man March. The march in 1995 attracted hundreds of thousands of black men, who pledged to take personal responsibility for their families and communities.

145. Yes ! They boldly said " REGIME CHANGE!"

The entire March was geared first to African American people.
Encouraging us to get our own house in order regarding education and politics.

Then, he and others at the March were BOLD and TRUTHFUL enough to say what we have been saying at DU, "REGIME CHANGE,NOW."

Farrakan,IMO, delivered one of the most powerful political speeches of my lifetime.

I am sure that their will be many that will pick his message apart until the cows come home but he and the other speakers let the WORLD know that we must have REGIME CHANGE in America.

The Rev. preached his sermon yesterday!
