Winners and Losers...
I know this may be a bit premature as the curtain hasn’t fallen on this pathetic drama, but at this point in time when the dust settles from the Cakegate storm specifically, and coupled with the growing realization that this country is being run by a cabal of criminals and liars, whom do you think will emerge as “winners” and “losers?”

My (selective) list:

Winners
Democracy—the will of the people is FINALLY being realized.
The “Charters of Freedom”—In spite of being savagely attacked by John Ashcroft and the Bushistas, they will survive and gain greater respect and appreciation (how many of you re-studied/re-read the Constitution since this travesty began?)
The Peace Movement—remember how many millions protested this invasion only to be ignored. Turns out they were right all along.
Democrats/Independents/virtually any political party that doesn’t have the elephant as its mascot—I know, some of you feel betrayed by the Democrats in Congress, but SOME have been speaking up against the Bushistas (Sen. R. Byrd). At least not EVERY member of the Democratic Party is tainted by this scandal, unlike the GOP where every member seems to be an accomplice due to active involvement or passive silence.
Terrorists—Sad to say, but due to this colossal failure, terrorists will enjoy a psychological victory that will swell the ranks of their followers and devotees. “Blue-eyed Satan” stared into the eyes of Islam and “Blue Eyes” blinked.
The Internet—I believe the Bushistas underestimated the power of the Internet. They thought they could control the minds of the American people by feeding propaganda through traditional media outlets. But the truth found its home on the Internet and kept concerned people informed.
“Old” Europe—turns out countries like France and Germany had good reason to stay out of this one. Perhaps we can learn from them.
“New Deal”—After this disaster, I believe there will be a renewed appreciation in the concept that Government, not Corporations, is best suited to work for the public good.

Losers (where do I begin?)
The Bush Family—Will the American people finally have enough of this criminal, ethically challenged family? (Don’t forget, a Bush has been on the GOP ticket in every general election since 1980 with the exception of 1996). After this fiasco, I seriously doubt ANY Bush will run for office again, since he would have trouble being elected dogcatcher.
The Bushistas—The entire cabinet of His Royal Flatulence. What can I say?—they would make Al Capone green with envy.
The Media (Whores)—the real culprits. I hold them more responsible than the Bush cabal in formulating and executing the present malaise. They could have prevented a lot of this by simply reporting the truth accurately and objectively. Instead, they chose to become Bush Cheerleaders and ignored their responsibilities as the Fourth Estate. Their credibility is shot.
The Supreme Court of the US—They proved that they are IN FACT a partisan entity, with personal, selfish aspirations that cloud the common good. And if this wasn’t enough, they make the wrong decisions. Lesson to be learned: NEVER f**k with the will of the American people, even if it means changing your retirement plans, foregoing your promotion, or diminishing the career opportunities of your spouse or children.
Newspapers, Magazines, Radio, TV—As instruments of disseminating news, they have proven to be just as untrustworthy as the Media Whores, and as such, have also lost credibility.
GOP—“They impeach lying Presidents, don’t they?” You have to believe there are some Republicans who are totally pissed at the Bushistas but have remained silent “for the good of the Party.” Not only does the GOP stand to lose over this, but now KARMA will prove them to be big-time HYPOCRITES!!
PNAC/empire building—Sorry, there are other people on this planet. Get used to it!
“Corporationism”—Will we ever hear another candidate for public office say he/she will run the government like a business?
Bush Supporters—Sorry, your boy f**ked you over BIG TIME! Get over it!

Winner and a Loser—The United States of America
As Loser—Presently, greatest budget deficit, high(est) unemployment, lost of civil rights, greatest abuse of its military forces, greatest threats to education, environment, voting rights, etc. Also lost the moral high ground: lost credibility as a nation advancing human rights and denouncing political assassinations, and can no longer be trusted as a country that uses military might for defensive purposes only.

As Winner—as much as I’m a pessimist (or naively pessimistic), I see the system “working.” This was/is the greatest attack by fascists and right wing zealots in this nation’s history. And in spite of attacks on free speech, the political/economic system, fair elections, worker’s rights, etc., it the Union will survive. There will be a lot of work to do to repair the damage as soon as these criminals are gone, but I believe the people are up to the task.
