The son of my brother’s ex-wife was badly hurt in Iraq.
My brother and his ex-wife were divorced many years ago after having 2 children. They are very good friends today, however. She had two sons in another marriage, and is single again. One of those sons was hurt just the other day when a roadside bomb blew up the vehicle he was riding in. Another soldier was hurt very badly and is probably dead by now. Deb’s son is now in Germany and may lose a leg.

She is a story in herself. She recently, no more than a month ago, lost a job she had just started because of a sign in her car window. It said, “I support my son, a soldier in Iraq, but not the liar that sent him there.” She was told that she just didn’t fit in. It was during a probationary period. So, she went out and got another job. (She lives in Denver.) On this job, she took a bus to work. One of the stops is at a Federal Building. She doesn’t get off there, but the first day a federal marshal boarded the bus and asked to see identification papers . The first day she showed it to him. Then, after stewing about it and researching the law on the web, the next day she refused. She was arrested for resisting arrest. However, there is no law that says she has to show her ID. So the ACLU has become involved. They are waiting to stage another arrest with cameras and reporters to see what transpires. She is a fighter. She has almost lost her new job because of all the publicity and her missing the work when she was arrested. And now, her son has been badly hurt. She can surely use our support. She is a true patriot.

2. She and her son are in our thoughts and prayers.
My prayer list has become so extensive that I may have to start writing all of them down on a roll of toilet paper! My heart breaks for her.

3. I'm so sorry to read this; she and her son will be in my
thoughts as well.
I don't understand about the ID papers. She was on a public bus but was still asked to show ID? What if she didn't carry any? Not everyone does, especially if one isn't driving. Reminds me of old WWII movies with the gestapo going through trains, asking for ID. Very strange.

Denver, that's my hometown..that scene at the "Federal Building" sounds like right out of a World War II movie.

I'm thinking she'll find the best job that she will like.

And, I hope her son gets to come home.

6. Send her our best wishes
and the hope for a speedy recovery for her son. And tell her about DU-I'm sure Denver area activists will be especially interested in her story.

Bill Scanlon, an attourney for the Ramseys is involved. They are itching for a fight. She is meeting with him on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all of your kind words.

I'll light a candle for her and her son, and for all the injured soldiers and their families who have been hurt in Iraq. :(

I hope the next 'showdown' goes well. Since when did we turn into Nazi Germany and have to show 'papers'! :grr:

ETA: For anyone interested, you can light online candles here: http://www.gratefulness.org/candles

10. Sending positive energy for the best possible outcome for your
ex-sister-in-law and her son.
She sure is a fighter, so I would guess her son is one as well.

12. My God, how Reich-stakian to ask for ID papers!!
And your former sister-in-law sounds like a true Trooper for Truth. Bless her heart.

Good things eventually come around to people who fight for freedom - if not in this life, then in the next. I truly believe in positive karma, so here's some for Deb.

14. She is indeed a patriot
I wish her all the best and her son to have the best possible medical outcome that allows him to come home, be whole and not have to go back there.

I'll light a candle tonight along with the one for Binka's son Ben for your (sort-of) nephew. Our hopes and thoughts and prayers are with them both.
