We gave "W" our special salute today
We were attending a church retreat up in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains this weekend, not far from Camp David.

A little after 1 p.m. we heard the colossal roar of a helicopter overhead. It was huge, military green and marked with a white 5-pointed star on the underbelly. We could hear a couple more copters passing nearby, out of our line of sight. We've learned to recognize this grouping of copters because we used to live right along their flight path between Camp David and the White House.

So of course we snapped to attention and gave W and his entourage our very best one finger salute.

A while later, after we had meandered through Cunningham Falls State Park admiring the leaves, we were on the highway home. A motorcade of three huge black SUVs, escorted by a white US Park Police vehicle, came up and passed us on the left - probably doing 75 mph or more.

Now, for security reasons, sometimes the Chimp travels in a copter, and sometimes by motor vehicle. So just in case he missed seeing our first salute, we promptly saluted the motorcade as well.

One can only hope he was in one of the SUVs and glanced out and saw my bumper sticker: "Are we kinder and gentler yet?" with dropping bombs depicted in the background. And perhaps my DU bumper sticker as well.

It was really a lovely ending to a lovely weekend.

4. I once heard an interesting story
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 04:04 PM by ck4829
Some young kids were protesting Bush while he was campaigning.

The motorcade came right by.

They gave him the finger.

Then, the window rolled down and he replied with his finger.

An old man who was with them said "I believe the President gave you the fingers, boys!"

:)

6. I read that story, too..
And "Mind of Mencia", a show Comedy Central, had that picture of * giving the finger on video.

I turned on Comedy Central to get ready for "The Daily Show" and that image was on my screen like forever..so I got rid of the mute to hear what he was sayin' about it. Carlos was goin' on about "the president givin' the finger"..evidently he thought it was worth telling his viewers about.

13. Bush avoids the public
Not hard to imagine Bush turning to someone in the car and saying "you see why I don't make public appearances that aren't scripted?" Admit it George - America doesn't like you.

16. You were on a church retreat?
And you did that? What kind of church do you attend? Obviously not one that teaches "turn the other cheek."

Glad you had fun, anyway.
