MLK would only be 76 if he were still alive. |

I don't know why I was thinking about that, maybe because of all the discussion about the current state of the civil rights movement, but it really jars me to think about it that way. I am in my early 30s and to me, Martin Luther King, Jr. seems like ancient history. And yet, he could easily still be alive and very much active today if he hadn't been shot in 1968.

2. When he was shot, he was making the connection |
|
between poverty and racism. Who knows what other strides we would have made with his leadership...

4. And what I've always thought was sort of freaky |
|
was his speech about the mountain. How he said he may not make it there and one guy on the PBS "60's" special was saying how he knew he wouldn't live past forty. It was so weird and sad. :(

6. Not weird considering how many death threats |
|
he received. Very volatile times when maniacs felt the best way to silence the opposition was by 'permanently' silencing them.

:( I was watching the "Millions More Movement" yesterday and thought to myself if he was still alive he could've been there. :( Same with Robert and John Kennedy and Malcom X. :(

5. isn't it sad to think that Rove and the freepers would be smearing him |
|
just like they smear Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They'd accuse him of playing the "race card," they'd call him a "poverty pimp."

7. At that time, the smear was that he was a 'communist' ... |
|
about the worst thing you could have said about someone in the 60s. He was also alleged to have had affairs and other shit too. They tried to take him out by smearing too.

8. my point was that because he was assassinated he is off limits. |
|
so they smear sharpton, jesse jackson, the naacp, etc. while not including MLK... which they would if he were still alive.
