A battle we CAN win, a victory that Katrina victims desperately NEED.

FEMA Deadline Looming For Katrina Victims

I am inviting you to take action to urge FEMA to extend the deadline for victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita to apply for federal assistance. Millions of families have been displaced by the hurricane and hundreds of thousands still have not been able to go home to survey the damage. FEMA only gives these families 60 days to fill-out complex applications for aid. These families deserve more time.

Send a message to FEMA asking them to extend the deadline past the current date, October 28 www.extendthedeadline.org.

The few people who have returned to New Orleans are just beginning to get their lives reordered. Not a single person I spoke to during my visit had even started paperwork with their insurance companies, let alone registered with FEMA. Until they got back into the city, they did not know what to report, and those who had called FEMA could not get through.

Worse, FEMA has a 60-day deadline for individuals to register for relief aid, like loan assistance.

To help push FEMA on this issue, we've set up a very simple website www.extendthedeadline.org that lets you send a message to FEMA asking them to extend the deadline past the current date, October 28.

This is a battle we can win, and it's a victory that Katrina victims desperately need. Please take a minute and ask FEMA to ExtendTheDeadline.

5. Send Katrina victims to Washington
One Dollar For Gulf Justice

"If we can raise $20,000, we will bring at least five Katrina survivors to Washington, DC this month to meet face-to-face with politicians and the news media -- to press them for a straight answer on a vital question: “Are Washington politicians rebuilding the Gulf Coast for their wealthy friends, or the people of the Gulf?”

Campaign for Americas Future - Contribute $1 to Help Katrina Survivors Speak Truth to Power

They currently have $23,155. I am hoping that the lion-share will be spent to BLAST the media - :bounce:

13. If you wish to help push for HR 3922 to get out of the Finance Commitee.
The FEMA app takes maybe 5 minutes to do and I have little doubt they will extend the deadline.

Those of us fighting the storm surge vs flood issue need 3922 passed. This resolution will allow those of us that lost eveything to buy-in to the flood insurance program.
