Sorry about using Faux, but nobody else seems to have it.

Specter: Miers 'Backs Griswold'
Monday, October 17, 2005

<snip>

WASHINGTON — Harriet Miers "backs Griswold," according to Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who met the U.S. Supreme Court nominee on Capitol Hill Monday afternoon.

The statement gave long-awaited insight into how Miers, who has never served as a judge, would rule on the legality of abortion. Griswold vs. Connecticut ruled that married couples had the right to use contraceptives and was a basis for the Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion.

Specter, however, said Miers' statement "should not give conservatives heartburn because she's not committed. No one should know how a judge will rule on any issue."

Some conservatives may not be pleased. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., said supporting Griswald as settled law would be a "red flag" that Miers might not be willing to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

So Dobson has been assured that she'll overturn Roe v. Wade, and Specter has been hinted at, that she won't???

Are these guys playing Three Card Monte, or do they just not have a friggin clue???

:shrug::wtf::shrug:

:rofl: shows what an idiot * is without his brain

RawStory put it best (as usual):

"Now Bush has committed the unpardonable sin of trying to act like a leader instead of just talking like one. The results are equally bad, and the people who have grown to think of themselves as the real leaders of this country are having none of it."

3. Griswold is the precedent for a right to privacy.
It's tough to overturn Roe entirely while backing Griswold.

4. I Know... Did Specter Think He Was Doing Her A Favor ???
Does he want to help shoot her down?

The fact that only Fox has this, makes me suspicious as hell.

Strict Constructionists DON'T FIND a right to privacy in the constitution. The right-wingnuts, ain't gonna like this AT ALL!!!

7. Who knows?
Maybe specter thought he could MAKE her adopt Griswold's rationale if he just announced it thus.

5. Here's the thing
Harriet doesn't really know Constitutional Law so she really doesn't know whathe f*ck she is talking about. She'll become another Clarence - writing opinions that have no basis in precident but a hell of a lot about how she "feels" about a ruling. Thomas does it all the time. He makes it up as he goes along. Harriet will do the same thing.

6. I considered that, but the statement came from Specter, not her.
Who knows what she really thinks? Or what specter is doing?

12. This is easy ...
Rove, probably suffering from a little short-timers syndrome, told Dobson that Harriet would overturn Roe and Specter that she'd uphold Gonzalez.

He's a lying POS after all.

13. They are trying to wrap their corporate-friendly pick
in a 'moral' shroud for the right, and keep her ubiquitous for the left.

All they care about is getting a corporate-friendly justice. If Roe v Wade is overturned they will lose 20+% of their base - who will be smugly satisfied w/ overturning it, and become more than 1 issue voters.

The R's have little to nothing to offer 85% of the country.

All they care about is getting a corporate-friendly justice in.

15. What next? She's comfortable with Brown v. the Board of Educ.?
Whatever you do, Harriet, don't go out there on the thin ice of post 1960's decisions!

Oy vey!

Oy Who?
