Al Gore invented the Internet!
No, of course he didn't. He never said he did, but the RW spin machine, well, lied.

Al Gore did have a major impact on making the Internet what it is today.

Did he "lie" or even "exaggerate" about his role and influence on the Internet?

If he did, I doubt that he would have been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Webby award for his efforts and influence to do, well, what he said he did.

Let he with a Webby award cast the first stone...

1. I, for one, would thank him
most gratefully for his part in the invention of the internets.

Besides, he's really the president anyway., President Al.

3. My favorite resource for setting the record straight on Gore
is the Daily Howler.

4. Al Gore DID invent the internet as we know it
Put simply it would be called "Arpanet" and it would still be exclusively used for government and military purposes if Al Gore wasn't shrewd enough to see the commercial and practical appeal of having a world wide network.

The man took credit for a program he pushed funding for. A program which had little to no Republican support last I checked.

Same goes for Network Centric Warfare which brought our military into the 21st century BEFORE the 21st century. (More overall effort by Clinton Admin than just Al though)

Maybe that's why Apple has him on their board of directors.

6. Isn't it ironic that the online movement could get him elected (again)?
Run Al. Please run.

7. Al Franken discusses the smear attempt on Gore in his book
I'll see if I can find a quote anywhere, but it's in his book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right"
This particular story is an especially egregious example of the methods the far right use to take a person's reputation and distort the progress and good works they have done and use them to create a public image that appears grotesque and out of touch. Al Gore would have been a great treasure to America, and they knew it.

Here's a link to the paperback edition on Amazon:

8. Al Gore was the acknowledged leader in Washington ....
on the Internet, the grand daddy of the web. He invented "information superhighway."

The pukes hate the truth worst of all.

9. Guess who presented him with that award??
Vint Cerf himself. VC has repeatedly mentioned and honored Gore's participation in FUNDING the research that made the internet possible.

Tell a lie often enough and people start to believe it as truth.

11. Yep, if getting the Webby itself wasn't enough, having Vint present
it to Al, well,
'nuff said.
