Even though, as he understands it, Star Wars takes place in a galaxy far way.

56. Never seen someone work a set like that...
I loved him standing in front of a portrait of him standing in front of a portrait.

I love that you can tell this is all the flashy special effects that they *could* do on the Daily Show but don't. Colbert holds the stage well.

His name on the sign, and shadowing up there so it looks like we put it twice, and on the sides, and on the plasma screen, and in chaserlights DOWN THERE...

And the whole desk is a C...

This was hysterical. I don't know if they can top the set antics...Stone Phillips didn't sit at the big desk, Colbert went to him at the "children's table" set.

I hope he does a Situation Room parody. Wolf Blitzer as the Wizard of Oz pulling levers and throwing switches...

65. Shit! On here at 12:30 AM here in MT....I wonder if it will rerun?
Comcast has the west coast feed so to spare the children Howard Stern...the lump E! with Comedy Central and a couple of other channels.
When it was on the east coast feed, we got TDS at 9 pm...now, it's a midnight!

WAY TOO LATE!

66. Background on show from the New Yorker:
Colbert’s sense of abandonment was limited by the fact that he was staying behind on West Fifty-fourth Street to develop his own fake-news program, “The Colbert Report,” which, starting in October, will air just after the fake news on “The Daily Show.” “It’ll be like O’Reilly segueing into Hannity, Hannity into Greta, Larry King into Aaron Brown,” he said. “I love that Aaron Brown, the way he sucks the flavor out of every word, and I love the way he mulls. No one mulls the news like Aaron Brown.” If “The Daily Show” is faux evening news, “The Colbert Report” will be faux Bill O’Reilly. “The focus will be me, lots of me,” Colbert said. “Occasionally, we’ll turn the camera elsewhere, but only for pacing.” And what sort of presence will “Stephen Colbert” have? “My ambition is to have Stone Phillips’s neck and Geraldo Rivera’s sense of mission.”

The Comedy Network doesn't appear to be carrying it. They showed the usual Everybody Loves Raymond after The Daily Show tonight.

So far he's got O'Reilly's fake populism and very real egomania down pat.

The set has all that expensive busy crap piled everywhere, all the moving graphics. just like the real nutnews shows. It's great, kudos to the designers and producers for not skimping.

I busted out five times in the first three minutes. And I'm smiling like I'm heatin' a bowl. And really, I'm not. I'm kvelling. Colbert is making me giddy. He did it! They're on their way!

There's also some light-headedness leftover from Dolly's appearance on TDS. :-)

It's a great night!

113. We have to cut some slack tonight, because second shows
are never as good. It would be pretty hard to top last night.

Jon also did a tremendously good show, artfully handing off to Mr C.

107. Great Show! Cobert also in Sesame St DVD (photo)
I shit you not, and it's a brand newrelease. I bought it for my daughter the other week. She wanted an Elmo's World DVD but Mommy just HAD to see Stephen Colbert playing the Letter Z. It's great. The letters A and Z are reporters on location in a shopping mall doing a report about the alphabet. The letter Z feels unappreciated and useless because he's not in many words.

I cracked up during the Colbert Report. So much like the right-wing talking head shows. I love the fact that when Stone Phillips came on that Stone had crappy lighting in the beginning whilst Stephen was brightly lit. LOL!

FINALLY Comedy Central has something decent on in the 10:30 pm time slot.

111. Colbert "Rapport"
At least that's how he pronounces it. I liked the beginning with all the over done USA/Eagles stuff. The show had a bit too much laugh-track stuff to carry the weak material, though. Well, good luck to them.
