Indictments could come as early as Wednesday
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 10:41 PM by Blue_Roses
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff may have given New York Times reporter Judith Miller inaccurate information about where the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson worked at the CIA, a former intelligence official said on Monday.

The possible discrepancy comes amid signs the federal prosecutor investigating who leaked the identity of Wilson's wife, covert CIA operative Valerie Plame, will announce whether he will bring charges in the case as early as Wednesday, people close to the case said.

Wilson, a former diplomat, says White House officials outed his wife, damaging her ability to work undercover, to discredit him for accusing the Bush administration of twisting intelligence to justify the Iraq war in a New York Times opinion piece on July 6, 2003.

Where are these leaks coming from and are people just grasping at straws? Up until now we've heard nothing and now there are lots of stories going around. Wonder how many we have to take with a grain of salt.

4. I wonder too
What's weird is how this came out the same day as the announcement from Fitzgerald that he will make the indictments from DC and not Chicago which should be a gimme since he's working in DC.

7. there's something I don't like about this
"Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff may have given New York Times reporter Judith Miller inaccurate information about where the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson worked at the CIA"

if Libby gave false information about Plame to Miller, it could exonerate both of them. let's just say hypothetically, that he told miller she had a desk job, not under cover. He could say to his knowledge he was not aware she was undercover.

10. Yup- that could indeed be what they plan to do as a way out.
Let's just hope that the evidence Fitzgerald has been collecting goes deeper and that he has additional information from an inside source which can make it impossible for them to be exonerated.

It's difficult not to be giddy with hope at this moment but we do need to remember that we are dealing with experts here who are really good at sliming their way out of most situations where they are clearly guilty. Remember also that they still own the media, run the Supreme Court and own Congress. They will not fall without support for it happening from within.

12. still, someone somewhere had to know her position
this article just suggests that Libby is going to weasel out of it by saying he didn't know. others will have to hang. the info is classified, so someone had to go and get it.

14. And I still think she wrote "Valerie FLAME" in her notes on purpose!
Honestly, every journalist knows that dealing with stuff like that is bound to leave you vulnerable. I have zero doubt that she wrote her name down incorrectly, comitting the correct name to memory, as a way to test the bounds of technicalities should her notes be turned over. "Plame? Valerie Plame? No... never heard of her. SCooter told me about a Valerie Flame, though, so he didn't technically out her."

15. For her to use "Valerie Flame"
and then try to act like she didn't know what the hell she was writing is so over the top. I think Judy Miller actually believes the tripe she says.

13. It's okay.
Don't worry; everything is fine. Let the "bad guys" do the worrying. Enjoy being a witness to this part of our nation's history.
