Just when it's gettin' hot in Washington, watch out...Saddam trial starts |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 06:30 AM by Atman
Tomorrow. Even if Bush himself gets indicted (not that he will), I have a hunch the whole Cheney/Plame/Miller/leak-gate is going to be relegated to page D27, and the Cabal News Networks will drop the story in favor of profiles of Saddam as a child, Saddam's days as a brutal tyrant, The History of Saddam, Saddam: The Lost Years, Extreme Makeover: Spider Hole Edition.
They already started this morning with video of adoring crowds waving and cheering as Saddam's car passed through a village, being sure to point out that all the villagers were forced to show adoration for him or he'd kill them.
The trial of Saddam will allow the administration to re-parade all the man's wickedness before America as they attempt to refresh public opinion and remind us that perhaps, you know, Mr. Cheney and his Gang of Thugs had really done the right thing in taking him out, and that we shouldn't be so hard on him for outting a mere CIA operative who tried to derail our Liberation.
I have a bad feeling about this.

The spin, of course, will be to conflate 9/11 with Saddam, and how much better off the world and especially the U.S. are now.
Add the Iraqi Constitution to this, and well, Bushco is thinking: Not to worry.

4. I don't doubt that they are going to try this |
|
But i don't know why it will work any more than any of the other strategems they've been trying to change the subject with. I mean the key things about Saddam - he apparently wasn't much of a actualy threat to the United States (although he might have wanted to be) and he has been in prison for the last few years and thus even less of a threat. 5. You have a bad feeling, because history has a way of repeating itself. |
|
There is just no such thing as being "a little bit pregnant"..
You is or you ain't.
And so "as the world turns" so does our fortunes. Ask anyone who watched the Gannon/Guckertt mess evaporate into smoke.
Talk is cheep and all we have so far is talk.
I will believe when I see with my own eyes paper indictments being served.
I will believe when I see the cement truck back up to the smoke and mirrors and give us a solid foundation to jump on, stomp on, and carve our names on.......until then I will join you in your skepticism.

6. Hmmm...no one else seemed to notice? |
|
I hope that means I'm wrong! I also hope we're not so excited about the potential to see BushCo taken down, that we haven't forgotten what master of manipulation they are. How many times have we've seen them with their toes on the Frog March starting line, only to witness another false start because BushCo Media Entertainment dredged up a convenient diversion for us?
Just sayin. Again, I hope I'm wrong. But I see very little mention of the Saddam trial here on DU, and the circus comes to town tomorrow.

8. Its been a long time coming |
|
What's it been 2 years now? The date was set early last month http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/09/04/iraq.main/I guess they wanted to do it after the referendum. I guess they want Saddam gone by the time the election is held.
