Is it time to make Miers's adolescent crush on W part of the SC debate?
Is it sexist, or out of bounds, to ask if the tone of her notes to Bush, and her speeches, should place her judgment, maturity, and fitness for the Court, into question? Is the LA Times skirting this question with this article today, the responses to which have included concern by posters that this woman's state of mind could make it impossible for her to think and act independently on the Court?

LAT: In Speeches, Miers Heaped Praise on President
By David G. Savage, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — Critics have poked fun at the effusive greeting card messages that Harriet E. Miers used to send to then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush and that have become public following her nomination to the Supreme Court.

The glowing remarks were not limited to greeting cards, according to the texts of recent speeches and other public remarks released Monday by lawmakers.

"President Bush's vision, his discipline and relentless dedication, his hard work and his likability have made it possible for all of us in this room to participate in the great enterprise we know as the United States," she told a group of White House interns in June....

***

In one speech, she spoke of Bush's little-known talent as an editor. "All those editing skills, and you would think the president was a lawyer himself. He works so constantly. We'll keep an eye out and make sure he does not start keeping track of his billable hours," she told the interns. "Time and time again, it seemed, the president was able to zero in on the most difficult aspect of an issue and provide exactly the direction needed. Guess that is why he is the president."

She also spoke of how Bush hugged relatives of a soldier who had been killed in Iraq.

"This is a scene I will never forget for the selfless caring and value and sacrifice it depicted. So much of what is great about America is wrapped up in one big hug."

1. That is wrong for so many reasons
"This is a scene I will never forget for the selfless caring and value and sacrifice it depicted. So much of what is great about America is wrapped up in one big hug."

:puke:

The guy that indirectly murdered this soldier hugging his victim's family is what she considers a shining moment for America?

2. Well, she's obviously not impartial when it comes to the president...
what if a case should come before the court that could have negative concequences for Bush? It seems obvious as to how she would rule.

At the same time, it would be kinda weird to Bork her over that, wouldn't it? (love using that as a verb. It makes me happy.) I mean, should sycophantry really be cause for disapproval? Perhaps it could, when added up with other points -- such as little or no experience.

3. I don't think it's a crush. It's EXTREME ASS KISSING, which to him may
seem like a crush, because he's shallow and arrogant. Only a moran would fall for her blatant, over-the-top goo-gooing. He LOVES it when seemingly strong, overpowering women (like Mommy) GUSH ALL OVER HIM (unlike Mommy). If an employee sucked up like that to me ( a few have tried--but none in such a transparent manner)I'd be forever suspicious.

She's lying to & about him in order to remain on the venal, petty bastards good side. And it's workng.

5. Who says it has to be sexual?
Just frame it how it seems to be:

She is obviously infatuated with the idea of Bush, by his "presence" and title.

Not on a sexual level, not necessarily.

But she certainly seems to be in awe of him.

I think that itself speaks volumes, and really shows that she may have serious issues with maturity, seriousness, responsibility, judgment, and impartiality.

6. She's unqualified & got the nomination by being a craven sycophant.
She is completely undistinguished and completely unworthy of the highest court in the land.

9. There ya go. That's our argument in a nutshell.
But we might as well wait to make it, or at least wait to make it loudly, until the Republicans have finished ripping each other to pieces over this.

7. "... his hard work and his likability ..."
1. Now we know where he got his meme for saying "It's hard work."

2. Likability. 'scuse me? He has an infamous temper and induces a sense of terror amongst those without power who must work with him, yet she has the gall to tell a blatant lie that he is "likeable"? Give me a break.

3. Agreed, the woman is a sycophant. All this talk about how big a deal it is that she became president of the Texas Bar Association, I can't help but wonder how much of that was a return favor by her main imaginary squeeze.
