Do they even care about West Nile anymore? |
|
I found a dead blue jay in my yard this am. This is followup to one that I found recently in my dog's water bowl. I called the County extension agent...he just basically said thanks for calling. I would think with the terra terra terra threats of bird flu...that monitoring dead birds would be something they would do.

3. no longer accepting birds for testing in most parishes or states |
|
west nile is confirmed coast to coast in usa, there is no longer any need to continue to test the birds, we know it is here & here forever, just like st. louis & la crosse encephalitis, its close relatives
west nile is not a serious threat to people of normal immune function under age 50, most ppl who acquire west nile never know it
i do feel much grief for the near-100 percent mortality seen in corvids who acquire west nile but fortunately the percent of mosquitoes carrying west nile is small & eventually new populations of corvids will move into the territory, i had no blue jays for abt a yr but i have if anything more than ever now
bird flu is monitored by u.s.d.a. & the poultry industry, not by picking up dead wild birds

4. It's not favor of the year anymore |
|
It was several years ago that everyone was freaked out about that, if I recall correctly. Then came SARS, shark attacks, anthrax, lyme disease, kidnapped white girls, and of course, terrorism.
The media has a short attention span. Just like the rest of the country.
