To coin a phrase, "Bring it on."
If there is bird flu, guide the flock our way.

If there is mad cow, give me a free Big Mac coupon.

Mercury contaminated fish? Tell the salmon to swim this way.

West Nile? Well, I live in Minnesota. I've dealt with skeeters all my life.

Bankruptcy bill changed to favor the satanists? Fair enough. I let my Bible console me. For God is far more forgiving than the antichrists running the earthy show right now.

Another terror threat? What else is new, said the pack of children crying "WOLF!"

Jobs getting offshored? That's fair. We all know money is more important than a stable societal infrastructure anyway.

Don't get fat! Obesity leads to X, Y, and Z problems. Who fucking cares? We all die of something at some point and I could be ran over by a big mack truck tomorrow.

Why should I care about any of this shit? I'm frightened into the hole where the folks in power want us all to be. They win. Congrats.

I see less worth fighting for every day. The marine adverts can say what they like. But most people are seeing what's going on and would agree there's less that's worth fighting for. Oh, the deception COULD have worked too, by the way... You just did too much at once. Whoops.

So I could care less if I sneeze to death via a new flu strain or if I'm in a building that gets blown up by a group of maniacs whose religious mumbo-jumbo is the equal yet opposite equivalent to the group of maniacs running our country and the politicians they currently support. The time where the living will pity the dead is merely that much closer.

So enjoy life while you can. Don't let them take your ability to remain happy until you're six feet under.

1. You are so right on with this post...
Keep the flock cowering so they don't make trouble...

I used to let all of these things get to me and I was a nervous wreck all of the time. I finally decided that I was going to live my life the way I want to and whatever happens...happens. Making myself sick with worry is not going to change a thing.

I have two wonderful children and an amazing wife and I am going to enjoy my family and my life regardless of what these bastards tell me.

2. What's going to crush us
is when we see other people suffering. Magnify how we all felt about Katrina, those 5 days, and now, all the days after. Not so much the horrible tsunami, the many disasters worldwide recently, but the things in our nation, for which we feel responsible. The things we can't do anything about, but know we should have done something.

We'll all make do as best we can, it's what we do. But when we see it on tv, like with the hurricane victims, and realize there isn't a damn thing we can do? For all our status as a world power, can't even feed starving people or help freezing people, can't save sick people. That "nothing worth fighting for" attitude, can't disagree. It's going to be horrible. It's my opinion, seeing people nationwide, and worldwide too but it hurts us more when we feel responsible ourselves, seeing other people dying ,everywhere and at home, is going to be horrible. If it happens, it's going to be, well, they're still talking about the Great Depression, and this could be so much more worse than that. Could be.

Watching C-span 2 right now. They just said midwesterners are particularly at risk for heating this winter, the natural gas. I'm in the midwest. yeha. I'll tell you, the midwest isn't used to disasters, A few floods, tornados. it's not going to be pretty at all. It's going to be awful for us to see.

3. Funny. These are the reasons why I do what I want now.
Everyone is going to die someday.

These people seem to want to convince us it is going to be sooner than later.

So what the fuck are we waiting for?

I am not afraid.

4. I'm hoping for mid-2006 myself...
There's only one thing left out of life I want... and that's due out on DVD in March. :D

That was half-serious... but I've appreciated EVERY response so far.

7. Not to be shallow, but
"Blake's 7" series 4. If you've ever seen "Firefly", that show was clearly based a few of its roots from Blake's 7. B7 was produced by the BBC in the late 1970s and, by far, is the most intellectual and thoughtful piece of sci-fi (if any tv) of the time.

I've been waiting YEARS for a DVD release to come out in America. Since it hasn't, I've bought the UK releases and a multiregion player. Series 1-3 are already out...

I suppose it's sad that my one big dream in life is to own an entire television series. However, given today's economy and "business" structure, it seems owning a tv show on DVD has more meaning than improivng my career. The jobs are not there and people who know me have been SHOCKED to hear that I haven't found a replacement job yet. (they think I'm more or less smart, little do they know... ) All of this doesn't mean I'm not studying or improving my skills, but I'm more likely to get bird flu than a promising continuance of my career...

8. Thanks. I do have to wonder what the mindset within the powers that be is.
Fear, yes. But when you condone actions that deprive people of their livelihoods (which to a large extent is not just their ability to live BUT their lives themselves), you bet people are going to react negatively. For it's no different than being murdered by a psycho killer.
