Now that the Society of Professional Journalists has given Judy Miller... |
it's First Amenment award, I've contacted them and told them to cancel my membership. To paraphrase W., it felt good.
From now on, I abide by Groucho Marx's old creedo: I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

4. Good for you! Ethics and integrity are important character traits for a |
journalist! I hope more members follow your example. I was a member many years ago before I sold out and joined an ad agency. I'd quit over this if I could.

5. last week I emailed all their staff explaining "my dissapointment on how |
they were trashing the 1st ammendment and journalists in general," and got an out of office replay from the entire staff...Want to try? http://spj.org/spj_programs_headquarter.asp

7. No, they gave it to her... |
The American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) decided not to give her the award they intended to, but that was back in August. The two incidents were confused on this board and elsewhere, though.

8. I see this society is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, world-renowned |
as a hotbed of civil libertarians and defenders of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

9. doesn't matter where they are based. They have local chapters |
everywhere, and it's a very respectable organization of professional journalists -- or at least used to be.

10. I think they have inadvertently done a fine job of exposing |
American journalism for what it has become.
