There has been a growing number of posts with links to FR since it was posted that DU is closing the gap in traffic with Free republic.

DU is gaining on them in numbers of hits, and trotting off to Goonbat Central twice an hour doesn't help DU any.

I can see an occasional check with the FR site if a snippet is provided, but I'm thinking that a post with a link but no info is counter-productive. Just an opinion.

I know that there will be a lot of interest in what FR is saying in the coming days. Maybe folks can report back with some info, not just a link. Maybe make the link the verification not the destination?

for those of us who just won't go to FR. There is also the courtesy of providing some information to those who have taken the time to open your thread.

I appreciate those who will check up on FR and report back with information. I wouldn't click on DU's FR related threads if I didn't.

The Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn would occasionally write a column about Rush Limbaugh's broadcasts. Zorn would write, "I listen to Limbaugh so you don't have to." That jocular statement didn't mean we shouldn't or can't.

Nor am I telling anyone what to do. I was careful to write that it was only my opinion.

As for the "marketing strategy" comments, DU is in the business of promoting Democratic and progressive discussion and ideas.

DU is also a business. I choose to support that business by a number of means. One is by not going to FR. That is just my choice and I have expressed my opinion on the matter.

DU is closing the gap with FR. We are gaining on them, if you will.
That speaks well for the Democrats and progressive thought. It is a valuable talking point.

Indeed, a fine marketing strategy for FR would be to post links on DU to their site with absolutely no information in the post, thus increasing their traffic. Some DUer's enjoy going to Fr, and I appreciate that. I even think it is important. I have no negative judgments whatsoever about that. In fact, I thank you for all the time you may spend there.

Please just give us some information.
