If you're in an AAR'less area heads up XM SkyFi + Car Kit - FREE after Reb
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 04:51 PM by Rosco T.
ok, this deal is ONLINE ONLY. Repeat ONLINE ONLY
(edit: it appears that is also avaliable IN STORE in LIMITED AREAS.. YMMV)

Circuit City has a SkyFi + Car Kit for $49.99.
XM has a 'no strings attached' rebate of $50.

You DO NOT have to activate the unit to get the rebate.
You DO NOT have to commit to a 'service period' to get the rebate.
You MAY get up to THREE REBATES.

That's as close to FREE as I can find to get AAR/XM

They are going in/out of stock so if you don't see it now, try again later...

2. Double check...
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 04:46 PM by catabryna
by entering your zip code. There aren't any available at any store in the Austin, Texas area. Just would hate to see ya make a trip and not find what you'd like.

Edited to add: We have AAR here in Austin, but I'm moving to the boonies and I'd like to have it in my car as well as something other than my computer.

4. For the real dummies - what do I need besides the XM radio
itself? There are several accessories but what is required for it work? Is there a XMSkyFi for Dummies available?

How hard is it to install?

I have got to find a radio station that carries something, anything besides Lush Limpballs and the gang.

5. XM Radio for Dummies - chapter 1
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 05:39 PM by Rosco T.
OK, what you need depends on what you get.

The item listed above is the XM SkyFi. It's a 'detachable' headunit that you can carry from house to car and back or room to room.

The above listed deal is everything you need FOR THE CAR. The SkyFi Headunit and the Car Kit. The Car Kit is easily installed, comes with a ciglighter plugin and a jack to plug in the audio out from the cradle to either a direct feed to your car radio (if you have it) or to a cassette adapter. The antenna is magnetic mount and can either go on the roof (preferred) or on the dashboard (works fine 99% of the time).

If you want to listen in the house, you either need a HOUSE KIT or the BOOM BOX. The House Kit is setup to connect to either your home stereo or a set of powered speakers. Also comes with antenna. The BOOM BOX you just snap the SkyFi into and 'poof' instant sound.

There is an UPGRADED version of the SkyFi, the SKYFI2. Everything above goes for it also, in addition it has a few extra features..

- built in RF Modulator (so you can feed your XM Radio directly).
- PAUSE/REWIND/FASTFORWARD in a 30 minute buffer (goes away when you turn the power off)

The ROADY2/ROADYXT are also good options, but are designed mainly for the CAR (there is a home dock, but a little pricy) Pretty much the same as the SKYFI2 (no PAUSE/REWIND/FASTFORWARD tho) just very much SMALLER/THINNER.

More options are available, including portable walkman type units, home component receivers and the like, check http://shop.xmradio.com/landing.aspx for the full lineup.

Except for one off deals like this, you'll find the best deals on the net at www.xmfanstore.com and www.myradiostore.us for soem great 'bundle' deals (SkyFi2+Home+Car or SkyFi2+Boombox)

11. $12.95/mo for the 1st unit, $6.99/mo for each..
..additional on the same account. Discounts for multi-year prepayment with NO CANCELLATION FEES (ie. full pro-rated refund if you cancel).

You can buy 'pre-paid' service cards for quarterly/yearly so you don't even need a credit card.

Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 05:48 PM by Fla Dem
Once you buy the equipment mentioned above, what else do you need? Can you use the equipment indoors or anywhere else? Or do you have to buy units for each different place you want to listen?
