A New Tidbit on the Plame Affair - TWENTY-TWO FILES - Larry Johnson
A New Tidbit on the Plame Affair

by
Larry C. Johnson

Had lunch today with a person who has a direct tie to one of the folks facing indictment in the Plame affair. There are 22 files that Fitzgerald is looking at for potential indictment . These include Stephen Hadley, Karl Rove, Lewis Libby, Dick Cheney, and Mary Matalin (there are others of course). Hadley has told friends he expects to be indicted. No wonder folks are nervous at the White House.

2. Why would Fitz' or his team tell a person facing indictment who else

he has opened files on?

I admit this escapes me. I can understand sharing a couple..."as in look Mr X we know from Mr Y what Mr Z did. Tell us your side of that."

But why would the investigator spill his guts to a target? The multistep chain linking the author to the person being targeted is more characteristic of urban myth than it is of reporting.

4. Someone who made a deal and flipped might know who Fitzgerald
was considering indicting. Or at least have a good idea.

6. In these cases
those facing indictment are told so by the prosecutor. It seems likely that others will be notified this week. And Larry is absolutely reliable as a source of information.

9. Maybe they are told and maybe they aren't at least that was
last weeks legal lesson about the notification requirement.

No offense to your Larry, everyone is trying to make stories with next to no direct evidence.

11. One can debate
if Larry is accurate or not. The notification is not really open to serious question. It's just the way the process works.

5. Hadley has told friends he expects to be indicted.
And who did Hadley work under at the time of the outing?

For those who think Condi would replace Cheney if he's indicted, don't think she's getting off clean on this scandal.

7. Isn't this really really great?!!!!
It's been a long time coming but it's going to be sweet. Just hope Fitz has figured out a way to keep them from all being pardoned.

8. Yeah! I think nailing * and Cheney simultaneously might accomplish that.
That would be sweet. NO PARDONS!

There's no way they would recover for 2008.

10. Fitz has to make the case based on intent.
There are several mixed motives going on and a degree to which each would break the law. The low level tier would have been seeking revenge against Wilson. The high stakes people were trying to protect and cover up the fact that the reason for the war was criminally bogus. The indictments will tell who's who in the republican crime zoo! That goes for the stenographers/*journalists*/punditeers too!
