Baghdad Mayor Killed - Interfax (Anybody Know If These Guys Are Reliable)
Since this blurb is only a couple of sentences, I'll just post the link: http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?catid=138&newsid=74625&ch=0&datte=2005-10-19

Seems like InterFax is a Russian, Eastern European News outlet.

I think...

10. This paper mistranslated a news report from
some small paper, probably from the mid-east. The guy worked for the city in some sort of managment position but was not actually the mayor of Baghdad.

12. I asked this morning in LBN-
Who is Hatem Mirza Hamza?

A better question might have been - Who is the mayor of Baghdad? Is it still Hussein al-Tahaan?

I have no idea. But, other than the one source on the killing, still nothing else in the news.

DUer muriel_volestrangler suggested it might have been a fault in the translation that Hatem Mirza Hamza, 'Baghdad municipalities’ president' was misinterpreted as 'Mayor'.

13. Ok... That's Probably It...
<snip>

In other attacks in Baghdad, insurgents shot and killed Hakim Mirza, a municipal director, and his driver, in the Dora neighbourhood, and Muhsin Chitheer in front of his home in the al-I'alam area, police said. Mr Chitheer was a lieutenant colonel in the Iraqi army that US forces disbanded after invading in 2003.

14. No wonder I couldn't find anything more.
I was using 'Hatem Mirza Hamza' to search, which was the name given in the original article this morning. Using just 'Mirza' brought a few results in addition to the link you provided.

Also mentioned here:
Insurgents kill at least 14 in attacks as Saddam's trial begins

http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/051019/w101956.html

At about the same time, In other attacks, Elsewhere - What a string of senseless death.

So, I guess we've established the Mayor of Baghdad was one of the few NOT killed or injured today.
